    aircraft stands?????????????

i seem to remember as a boy that most aircraft kits were supplied with a stand, for the aircraft to be displayed "in fligt" so to speak.

it would appear that this trend has dissappeared and i just wondered if the stands are available for purchase seperatley and if so can anyone post details of current suppliers.

    many thanks

    Hi Shaun,

I don't know how useful this is but I'm sure I remember reading a thread on this site showing how one guy uses perspex rod to make his own stands - and they looked really good. I've also seen a few old style ones advertised on ebay but they're pretty rare.

If it is a small model, you could try use a long piece of the clear sprue in the kit as a stand and drill it into the model and a nice piece of wood as a base.

That is what I am going to do for the T-6 model.

hi shaun welcome to the forum. Its a shame the stands arent included any more , anyone wanting to do a plane in flight has to make their own.Ive used clear acrylic rod on a couple of mine (see pics) after a tip from steve (stona) Check out his spitfire on his gallery , his stand uses a clear photo frame as a base and looks brilliant.I think the acrylic rod is fairly easily available , i got mine from marcways in sheffield.hope this helps ,cheers tony

I think the reason why stands are not included any more is because those lovely old kits were intended for desk display etc, these days model builders like to store their models in glass cabinets usually sitting on their undercarriage legs.

There is something about a nicely built airliner model with a classy stand, these are easy enough to make from scrap wood that is shaped and varnished or even offcuts of clear acrylic sheet, the arm can be made from wire or even cut from thin aluminium.
