Short Sunderland Anti Submarine Bomb/ Depth Charge Colour Question

    Hi,

I am currently finishing an Airfix 1:72 scale Short Sunderland and I am trying to find what colour the depth charges / anti-submarine bombs were... I've tried looking around the interweb and come up with a blank (to the extent I still don't know whether they are bombs or depth charges...)

Does anyone know anything? If not I'll just do them in green with a yellow band.

Hi Gareth, if memory serves, they were depth charges with a kind of ring of fins to guide them. I stand to be corrected by more experienced guys if I'm wrong though! As to the colour, I've no idea on that-sorry! Patrick

Gareth, the depth charges were flat nosed cylinders, Dk green with a thinnish red band around the middle.

If you need more information go to Google images and type in 'Short Sunderland depth charges'......pages of the things!!!

        Spanner570,

Saw those, however the model kit bombs have a more pointed nose, additionally I always thought a red band on a weapon symbolised an incendiary device and not explosive which is yellow?

The yellow band for explosive must of been a later standard.
