    Italeri Kits ?

Hi I went to my local model shop today to have a look around, and noticed they mainly stock Italeri kits and as I have never built one i would like to know how good a kit they are as I would prefer to support my local shop than order online or they could get me Tamiya models but I would have to order them

I have a few Italeri kits and I am happy with them. Maybe not up to the extreme detail found in Tamiya but still very good. Some of them are getting a little old now but they were top kits of their day. The other thing is that they do not have the price tag of Tamiya/Dragon etc. If it is a particular kit that you want, go for it.

If I can I always go for Italeri, they have excellent detail, far less money than so called superior kits and are less fiddly. The reason for this is the likes of Tamiya insist on making a particular bit in more pieces than neccessary, whereas Italeri make it in one!

I have built both makes and when finished and weathered you would be hard pushed to tell the difference.

In conclusion, why pay sometimes twice as much for Tamiya when the Italeri version is perfectly acceptable? The 1/35 M4-A1 Sherman being a perfect example.

It's your wonga Kevin, but buying the Italeri Sherman allowed me to buy 4 bottles of Vallejo acrylics as well. All for the price of the Tamiya kit alone!

Vin, Just bought my first Academy kit expecting it not to be as good as Tamiya etc but am pleasantly suprised by the quality for the lower price.

Hi kevin i have several italeri kits none of them planes however two torpedo boats and a panther tank and i have to say i like them, they went together very well with very little or no filling so i imagine the planes won't be too different.
