Tamiya 1/48 Messerschmitt BF109 trop colour help.

Hello, could someone help me out please. The paint scheme calls for the colours AS-3,AS-4,AS-5.Which i gather refers to "cans" of paint. My question. Is their another brand of paint that does these colours and which numbers are they please. I have tried to find them myself but only got even more confused. Any help would be greatly recieved.

    AS-3 Gray Green = RLM 74 = Vallejo Model Air 54, Tamiya XF-54, Humbrol 32

    AS-4 Gray Violet = RLM 75 = Vallejo Model Air 51/52, Tamiya XF-24, Humbrol 106

    AS-5 Light Blue = RLM76 = Vallejo Model Air 46, Tamiya XF-53, Humbrol 126

I gather it is the E-4 version you are doing?

Hi Dingbat, you're not falling into a "can 'o worms" with that set of RLM colours,I'm a bit surprised that a tropicalised E-4 was in those colours, though of course it's entirely possible. What time period, theatre or unit are you doing?

        Cheers

Please forgive my lack of knowledge in this but the one i'm going for is a BF109E-4/7 TROP .OR the one in the picture. The instruction kit says it is a 7./JG 26.This is my first outing with a tamiya kit so i,m trying not to use their spray cans . £15 for the three i will need just seems like a waste of money to me.

The kit can either be a european E-4 or a tropical E-7

Thank you all for your help i do appreciate all your time. I'm doing an E-4 in the colours flounder gave me. I think i may use some creative license on this as the colours wont be a perfect match. ( it's that or i paint it bright pink tie ribbons on it and call it mary). This is my last post as i'm off to sunny cornwall with the wife and kids for a sun drenched week in the sun.

Enjoy "sunny Cornwall". The piccy is in 74/75 over 76 so you're fine. The white band on the fuselage is for the mediterranean theatre though it's still in European colours (perfectly possible). Just FYI the one in the piccy doesn't have a tropical sand filter fitted. It looked like this, and is basically a filter box bolted on to the front of the air intake with an opening flap at the front (the pilot had a little T-handle in the cockpit to operate it.)

                Cheers
