    Score of the month!

I just bought a 1/48 Airfix EE lightning kit for 4 Pnd(UK) at the model meeting.

Upon opening the BIG box it looks remarkebly good.Anybody have any experience with this model?

Even if the model is a "dud" it is allmost for free, so I will try all the things on it I don't want to on more expensive kits.

From what I have read, the Airfix kit is well respected and there is quite a bit of resin and photo etch about which does get used. Check out if there is any online reviews, I am sure there is. Also check out third party bits, if the kit was cheap enough, it won't add too much for exhausts, nose ring (metal as it helps with the nose weight) and cockpit

      Theuns,

I've had a look at some reviews for this kit (only 'cos I was jealous you'd got it so cheap!). It looks and sounds really good, and like Graham says, it's cheap enough for you to be able to buy your choice of any aftermarket goodies!

Will you show us your build when it's done please?

        I will do so yes.

I have desided to build this one before the Academy 1/48 F-15E to gain a little more skill.I must say I was rather impressed with the cockpit, the instr. pannel and sidewalls are a little "bare" but yhe seat builds up very nicely and a little attention here will be worthwhile.

As for the aftermarket things, yes I will see what the local IPMS lads can offer, I will still keep it relatively "out the box" with just a few pieces of "bling"

I also like the large decal sheet and wide veriaty of models that can be done.

        I will keep you posted

            Hi Theuns

Well I have just also bought that kit from Flea-bay. I have been after one for over a year but trying to get one for less than 30 quid, got one last night for just under 28, after missing one that went for about 25 the other week. They were going for around 35-40 up until a month or so ago. Anyway, to log on this morning and see you paid the equivalent of 4 quid!! Well, I'm sure you deserve the luck!!

Like the others here, I've heard it is one of Airfix's best kits, can't understand why it is not generally available in the shops (at least here in Britain it isn't hence having to resort to Fleece-Bay)

Enjoy the build. Which version you get, the F1 or the F2/6?

            Have fun,

            cheers, Saul

Hey Saul, no ide of what Mk yet, will have to do a bit of resurch first, but generally I might go for the most collerfull one!

Or maybe the one that crashed here in Cape Town a while back, It was gloss black allover with the RAF roundals on,rather cool.

So when are you starting yours?Let's compare progress in trime to come.

There are a couple of reviews here http://www.modelingmadness.com/kitindex/kitindexjkl.htm and it looks like it builds into a very nice Aircraft.

I look forwards to reading about your build.

Hi theuns, ive got the f2/6 version in my stash, its a great kit, and like the others have said there are plenty of aftermarket extras you can add if you like. Im waiting till i can master a natural metal finish till i do mine, its such an iconic aircraft i want to do the best job i can.Looking forward to seeing your model, cheers tony

                    Hi guys

I will be starting a thread in the construction site.

Tony if I have to wait to be able to do the natural finnish good enough, I will most likely never build this plane :-)

I will just go for it and see how it turns out.The only thing I can think of to replicate the bare metal is to paint the thing silver with a few pannels in slightly darker silver.

I will then mask the pannels and run fine scotsh brite over it to simulate the "grain" that bare Alclad has.It is also not nearly as shiny as we tend to think, if it has stood outside for some time and not been regularly washed, it tends to get a slightly dull greyish tint to the sliver.
