    EE Lightning?

I have startet painting the Airfix 1/48 Lightning. Were they (1 A) bare metal or painted silver with the red trim?

The tamiya X11 looks a little "shiny"

hi theuns , they were unpainted natural metal, quite shiny ,the only part that was noticeably different in colour was the nose ring ,which was i believe stainless steel so was a bit darker than the polished aluminium alloy of the rest of the airframe, hope this helps cheers tony

Yes mate it dous help, thanx

I have desided that the model has to be completed now, I have reached the point of not having fun on it anymore :-(

Therefore - no extra panneling, weathering ect, just paint and get it done.

          Derek, thanx.

I have allmost completed the "thing".Just need to add the wheels.Decals are on , but the clear gloss didn't cure and it seems like a thumbprintor two was left it it as I put the decals on,also the red seem to have absorbed the gloss and looks rather horrible I am afraid :-(

Well for the money invested it is no great loss...............

Maybe I will have better luck next time

Hi Theuns, I had a near disaster with my Eurofighter, when I had to strip all the paint off, spoilt the enjoyment a bit. The Lightning is one of my favourite aircraft of all time. To see them fly was amazing. RAF Leuchars in Fife, Scotland had two squadrons in the late 60'. Cheers Derek

That sounds very cool, I have not seen one fly myself yet.

I was looking at a nice tight formo of two SAAF SAAB grippens and a BAC Hawk over Soccer city here in JHB this week :-D

I will leave the plane exactly the way it is, I have invested more than enough time and effort on it and as you said the "fun" factor has left the building!

Hi Theuns, those were the days - Leuchars Sept 1967. I think there are a few flying versions of the Lightning in South Africa, I believe you can pay and fly in the trainer version. Cheers Derek

Yes IIRC there is only the two seater left as the single seater grached earlier this year.Yes if money is no problem then Thunder city in Cape Town is the place to be.They also have Buceneers and Hunters I think.

But allas I will not easly be convinced to part with the tipe of loot they want.I just hope the guy who I am re-covering an Aeronca now will give me a short flip in his 2 seat Hunter!
