Airfix 1/72 Supermaine Spitfire PR XIX over befor in began

After watching a program about Spits this morning I stared to feel a bit nostalgic and I deiced to build a Spit this weekend so I grabbed one of my newer kits from my stash, the Airfix 1/72 Supermaine Spitfire PR XIX. I used to keep clear of Airfix kits when I model about six years ago, after a very bad PBY and some seriously warped wings. I thought I would give them another try

After opening the box and looking at the spires I had to give my eyes a rub and grab a coffee it is 0743 on a Saturday morning after all I had a second look. This time I had to open the plastic bag and have a closer look. To my surprise the weapon options for a PR aircraft where out of the world with rocket pods and bombs. Then I had a look the aircraft its self and realized what the problem was. My PR XIX was a wulf in sheep's clothing well not so much a wulf but a BF109G

Unfortinly this has onece again put me off airfix kits so if any one can point out a good one I will give it a try

Whoops, sadly this should not happen but obviously it does and there is no excuse. However, clouds and silver linings, it does look a nice kit ;-)

Clearly this is simply an error in packaging and not a 'kit problem'

I know it must be frustrating but i'm 100% confident that if you actually complained to Airfix directly they would apologise and send you the correct kit, (and possibly reimburse you too?)

As Graham says, it shouldn't, but does happen.

I've built many Airfix kits, (they were in fact a staple when I was a kid as we didn't have the option of more exotic ones, I remember first seeing Tamiya vehicle kits in Beatties, (any of those still about?), and being surprised there were other manufacturers making kits.

I've had a few 'bad ones regarding rough casting, lack of detail, lots of flash and sink marks etc but only one which was warped which was entirely due to storage and on my part.

Anyhow, shame I know but contact Airfix and odds are you'll have a nice BF109 to build to dogfight with the replacement spitfire i'm sure you'll get.

Either it was down to to many fosters, Friday afternoon,or when Airfix shut and changed hands to Hornby someone got it a bit wrong (understatement)

I believe things are better now? At least the kits seem to be better these days, but hey we all like surprises, ( don`t we ?)

        Good luck Gareth.

I reckon that if you let Airfix know there is a fair chance that they will send you the Spitfire leaving you with the Bf109 as a bonus. It has to be worth a try!

          Cheers

Sounds to me that a quick call to Airfix would get that sorted.

I can uderstand the dissapointment though. A bit like exppecting steak and getting ham.!!!

              Good luck with it.

Do call airfix, they are really helpful and apologetic, well they were with me.

Don't get me started on Airfix, got a nice little dio in mind with "Johnnie" Johnson's Spit using Airfix Spitfire Mk IXc. Got it built up all looking nice, primed it up as i normally do and now it's a gray blob sat in the bin. Should of checked the plastic first so it's my fault lol, anyways, i'm sure they'll send you a Spit out if asked but i've got to admit that 109G looks nice.

                  Have fun, John

The PR XIX is quite a good model. It's a nice little build, so it's really worth having a chat with Airfix !

Re Airfix I bought a 1/24th Harrier years ago (and I do mean years) upon checking the contents I found that the canopy was broken. I sent of the complaint slip and within a week Airfix had sent me a complete replacement kit ! No complaints from me about Airfix.
