Airfix Gloster Meteor/v1 bomb "dogfight" kit

Was posting some stuff off this morning in my local post office/newagents and saw they had a few revell and airfix kits for sale, i saw this one and thought it looked good so bought it. Ive not done an airfix kit for years and although its not too bad i can see quite a bit of filler being needed. The kit has 1969 on the inside i guess the mouldings for this kit are that old?

Got the interior together and painted in no time and started on the pilot, jesus i thought 1/35th figures were a pain to paint. Then got the fusalage glued and some filler on the go.

Nice to get a kit with a display stand, you should get these with every kit.

That one doesn't look bad, I recently got a Spit vs BF110, (I think) and took one look, closed the box and filed it under give to someone else at some point.

It is awful, the wings are one piece, the mouldings for the Spit look quite inaccurate, the canopies for both are poorly cast and rough.

A real dissapointment as I was looking forward to building it, i'm just glad I didn't buy it from the shop when I was looking a few weeks before for full price, unfortunately based on this I wouldn't buy another dogfight doubles without being able to have a good shufty in the box.

The trouble is that the Dogfight Doubles range was introduced to breathe a bit of life into tired old mouldings. That must have been around the early seventies though so you are probably looking at mouldings quite a bit older than that. I sem to remember the Meteor and the Flying Bomb were relatively new.

The Spit and the 110 mouldings must be going back to early sixties so not surprising they were a bit of a shock. I would build it though just to enjoy the experience of reliving how we used to make models fourty years ago, in the days when my Dad was teling me that these new fangled plastic models were not real models and were cheating as all the work was done for you.

Just to point out that the Boss has done his twiddling and the Swap Shop now defaults to showing everything so hopefully, everyone will see what is in there OK.

                      Cheers John, nice one.

Ok a bit more done now. Pilot painted as good as i could, fiddly little buggers in 1/72.

All filling done and sanded, canopy and pilot glued in place and masked and now primed too.

That looks like it will come out really good. I find with 1/72 pilots is, " less is best " meaning if you try adding too much detail they tend to look a bit messy. But yours looks spot on.It's nice to see you haven't used the 2 black dots for eyes method some use but just using the flesh tone colour to represent the face.

                              well done
