Right then, the usual problem (for me at least) Loadouts.

I am doing ZE350 from 74 squadron, and to me a jet with out missils and bombs is like a dog with no teeth! So Could some one give me a green light on the following.

Center line tank, OK they all had those, in all the photos I could find.

Sparrows in the fusalage possitions.

Inner pylons? Era wise I have no idea, mk 81, 82, 83, 84's ? Aim-9's ?

Outter pylons? the same?

I have seen photos of Phantoms that have so much ordanance under wing that its a wonder they could get airborne, but they where all US in Nam.

Any offers?

Ah Ha! Apperantly RAF Phantoms were Air-to-Air fighters so I think I have got it sorted now.

If some one knows different ......

Ian, found these photos taken late 1960s at RAF Leuchars, they are the only ones I have showing missiles (no idea what they are); notice the ones half buried into the fuselage under the cockpit area. Hope they help. Cheers Derek

I managed to find a webshot by googling RAF loadouts F4J Blindingly obvious but that tends to be the last thing one thinks of!!!

So after common agreement between the three "experts" on the forum I found the pictures, the Load out will be Center line tank, as all carried them. The Fuselage mounted Sparrows, or the British Moded ones and double Aims on the inner pylon. Outer pylons where not that often used. (or so they said).

The "experts" I was refering to was in fact on a totally different forum, so you are quite safe!

All the experts on here are quite that, Experts with out the " ".

Ask a ? on almost any subject with wings or wheels and you will get a whole bunch or replies in no time at all.

Hi, I was an engine fitter on Phantoms (14 and 17 Sqn) in the 70's and as far as I can remember centre line tanks very rarely used except for long ferry flights ie when we went down to Sardinia for live missle/gun training. Usually on the centreline we carried a Galtling 20mm gun.(the one with the multiple barrels). Outer pylons were always drop tanks. Inner pylons were sparrows or as in the photo which I think was one of those units that had about 16/20 little missiles loaded into them. The attached photo is of a 14 Sqn Phantom with the ground crew obscuring all the nice detail. This was taken in Sardinia in 1975.
