Aftermarket decal sheets for RN Sea Harrier FRS1

Hi. Ive just taken delivery of a Tamiya Sea Harrier FRS1 in 1/48. As some of you who know me a little bit will know, Ive recently come back to the "sport" and Ive bought a few kits from e-bay mostly to practice with an airbrush on. The theory is that because they are neither expensive nor fit into my "model interest" (i.e. US Navy) that it really wouldnt matter if I screwed up and had to throw them away.

However, here is my problem. The "few" kits has turned into 9. However, this is now a good thing as it gives me time to research the kit before I start it (Im setting a policy of having no more than 3 kits on the go at once).

So here is my problem. In addition to US Navy, I will also model anything that had a significant effect in my life (For example, I will do any USAF aircraft that was stationed at RAF Lakenheath since I was born there, so I would do an F-111, but only in the correct markings).

This Sea Harrier is a lovely kit and I did a bit of research into it and I came across a lovely Royal Navy run website that actually lists every single Sea Harrier by serial number. The 3 decal versions of this kit were included. All 3 served in the Falklands, and all 3 actually have crashed and been lost since the Falklands.

Now, mention the Falklands and suddenly this kit fits nicely into "Aircraft that had an effect on my life". Although I was only 10 (Oops showing my age) I can remember that conflict as clear as day.

The first version was from FAA 899 based at RNAS Yeovilton. No offence to anyone with an interest, but there is no significance to me, although this aircraft has been officially credited with 3 kills.

The Third was from FAA 801 NAS assigned to HMS Invincible, which is the famous one. However, not very much significance to me either.

The second is FAA 800 NAS assigned to HMS Hermes. Now this is the one that brings back memories, especially of Brian Hanrahan commenting for the news shows, "I counted them all out, and I counted them all back" etc etc. This is the version I want to do.

Trouble is the kit provides markings and decals for the aircraft Pre-Falklands and according to a little bit of research the colours and markings were different for the conflict. The overall scheme was "dulled down" and pictures suggest the markings were different. Out were the bright red, white and blue roundels and in cam the smaller red and blue roundels.

Im nowhere near an expert on aftermarket parts and decals and to date I can not find 1/48 markings for an FRS1 during the falklands conflict.

Can someone suggest what to do next.

I need to know the overall colour scheme (Something I can convert to Humbrol) and I need to find a Decal sheet for a Sea Harrier during the Falklands, HMS Hermes based preferred. Even the squadron markings were dulled down, so I can even buy roundels and use the supplied sheet.

    TIA

I think what you are looking for Young lady might well be this sheet from xtradecals- Hannants - Xtradecal X48058 1:48

Have a look and see what you think. The sheet was worked out by the UK IPMS and includes every Sea Harrier involved in the conflict.
