Restoring P.E

Hi, I have just been given an old model that has some photo-etched parts in. But unfortunately its quite dis-coloured, does anyone know an easy way to clean them up. (they are un-painted) I'm a bit worried that if i dont clean or seal it, it might affect the paint finish
