Airfix Helldiver 1/72 - Canopy masking question

    Help!

I have masked my canopy and sprayed Vallejo model air.

I now need to put on the decals.

I am not sure if I should remove the canopy masks then apply a gloss varnish for decaling.

    Or

Leave on the masks. Then apply the gloss varnish, decals, flat coat and weathering and then remove them after all these stages.

    Regards

    David

Best to remove the masking after the final matt coat.Otherwise the finish on the canopy frames wont match the fuselage paint finish.I find its a good idea to run a craft knife along the edges of the masking before attempting to remove it.If you dont you might lift some of the paint off the frames when you remove it.

Have I got this right David. Are you going to remove the masking then gloss varnish which will include the clear parts of the canopy.

I did this by accident & was not happy with the result on the clear parts. To put it mildly very annoyed !

Not sure how I would go about this in your case as i do not know your intentions. After applying the decals are you then going to apply matt or satin varnish or leave gloss ?

          Hi Laurie,

I'm going to leave the masks on for now!

Apply the gloss cote, then decals & weathering, then a matte cote.

          I'll post some pictures soon.

          Regards

          David
