Spending all my money on aircraft kits..

Oh dear this is going to get obsessive I can tell, started making a few kits and now I am loving it so much cant stop. Just ordered myself two Revell kits the Ju88 1:72 and later wished I had ordered the bigger 1:32 version, that will be next. And also the Heinkel He 111 1:72 scale. Have yet to try other models makes as I like Revell kits but these will be the first German planes I have made. Now the big question is where am I going to put them all my collection is growing fast lol I bet this tiny collection looks puny compared to some others but from little acorns do big trees grow as they say.

Believe me Mark you stand at the top of a very slippery slope!

You'll have room for a lot more 1/72 kits than 1/32 ones. I mainly build in a large scale so I know You've already got yourself a nice looking collection there and you'll be surprised how fast it grows.

The Revell 1/32 Ju 88 is a nice kit but it builds into a very large model.

    Cheers

Nice collection Mark.I don't know how old you are but you will probably find you are hooked for life now.I made my first model when I was 8 and am still well into the hobby at 54.You will find you have a burning desire to keep buying kits and will soon have a lot of them waiting to be built.Don't worry, this is quite normal behaviour for us modellers.I've got 21 unmade kits which is nothing compared with some of the other forum members. So don't feel guilty, your amongst like minded people on here.

Ah yes the downward spiral into the plastic abyss. I've been a reborn plastic basher for about 5 years and have made around 15-20 kits and once swore I wouldn't obtain a stash but here I am currently making one kit whilst making the base for my next and have 5 aircraft, 1 car, 1 LVT & 2 squads of us marines awaiting my attention and still will always scour the tinterweb for a bargain. A slippery slope indeed.

        Happy building

        Regards

        Chris

Nice collection Mark. Slippy slope, sure, but you can do worse things with your time, like err decorating - hate that.

The slope is so slippery that i've gone and bought skis to help me down it.

My last count was 93 kits in my stash. No idea where i'm going to put them when built. But i like a challenge lol

Thanks for the encouragement chaps, this is one hobby my wife approves of as it keeps me at home and is less smelly then fishing. I must admit thought that after I had ordered the Ju 88 and the He 111 at 1:72 scale I then saw the 1/32 junkers model and thought oh my oh my I must have that one as well it looked a really nice model to make and those big ones keep me quiet for ages. Have also ordered some micro sol and micro set to have a go with still looking for some future though.

At 54 this is one hobby I am very happy to do as I love being at home and have a heart condition so it keeps me calm and relaxed, almost.

I thought it was just going to be US planes that would take my fancy but the German WW2 planes are very nice looking planes as well. What is it about planes they just look so great when you make them. I have a rule of thumb that after I complete one I have to hold it above my head and go yeeeeemmmmmm taka taka taka as I dive bomb my dog with it, he thinks I am mad but its just like being a boy again so lets keep reliving our child hood I say.

Hi again Mark (I just read your Lancaster thread). The stash grows, the kits get churned out. You build a few and the stash has replaced them with twice as many. The internet and all its deals and ease of accessibility is to blame. Your wife approves at the moment but when her lovely flowers or pottery has Stukas, Spitfires and every other aeroplane under the sun hanging from them, things will change. Trust me! As for room, I too am running out of 'allocated space'. I think I will be forced to choose favourites and the rest may have to go into storage.

I'm already there Joe. My loft has many completed kits in it. I'm a year older than Mark and have been at it since I restarted in my thirties,a lot of models! They are reasonably well boxed to avoid damage but the bottom line is that I know they are unlikely ever to see the light of day again.

Like most I enjoy the building and as new models emerge from the production facility old ones make way by passing up the ladder and into the loft!

                      Cheers

Hi Joe, I was thinking that it might be nice to let my local air museum have them when I run out of space they would look nice as part of a big display for visitors. I went to Modelzone in Norwich last week for a look around and they have a lovely display of models in the end of there shop. I told my missus that when I kick the bucket if she wanted to put them all somewhere to ask the local air museum in Holton if they would like them, at least that way others get to enjoy all that hard work and they don't end up forgotten about in a dusty old attic or the skip. My next project will be to create a display case for my favorite ones. My wife is into making cards so we both love being at home making stuff, happy times.

Mark I get most of my models from the Norwich store you just have to keep an eye out for the bargains. It's worth popping your head in Langleys in the Royal Arcade they sometimes have the odd model that's well priced plus they sell Model Air which Modelzone don't.

Yes, it's a great shop isn't it. I went there first to have a look around when I wanted the Saber model but ended up going to Langley's and they had the Saber for about 11.00 quid which was a bargain it was quite old but it came out really well. Langley's was great too lots of stuff to look at and some good bargains as well. My sister lives in Norwich now so its good excuse to nip over there and see her as well.

I can see myself buying kits and stock piling them in my bedroom for later builds. I very nearly spent 4O quid on a 101B model that Revell have stopped making, wish I had got it now as they seem quite rare to get hold of but I thought it would be better to get my microsol and microset and two smaller scale planes to be working on for now. You can't beat having the postman knock on your door and deliver a nice big scale model plane just before you have your cup of tea and slice of lemon cake! Getting excited about my Birthday now, being 54 is pretty good, I still get to be a boy and make model planes.
