    RC plane help

Can anyone please advise if this is possible ?

After many years away from modelling I have returned to the hobby with my lad and we are building our first rubber powered Guillows Piper Cub which is great fun. I have also bought the Axion TL3000 Sirius 2.4gHz for us to learn to fly RC with. The set came with the Axion 4ch FHSS transmitter. For our next project I would like to attempt the Guillows P51 Mustang with electric conversion and 4 channel RC.

1.Could this Axion Tx be used to control the Mustang ? if so how ?

2.If the Sirius does end up in a bag and the servos are ok and torqy enough could I transplant them into the Mustang or would it be easier to start again ?

    thank you !

    Hi Christian

Sorry for the delay here but I only just picked up on this post. The simple answer is yes, all radio gear can be transfered between models, its not a problem. That said you pay for what you get and the set you have has its limitations. If you come to install the radio gear in the mustang you may find that certain servos have to be placed upside down/back to front when mounted. This means that you need to electronically reverse the servo movement which is usually done on the transmitter. I am not familiar with your set so I dont know what set up functions or servo management systems it has. Also some servos are micro servos depending on the size of the plane and its control surfaces so if your mustang is a larger faster model it may require a higher torque servo. Looking at the Mustang I would imagine it will need a more powerful motor and servos than the ones in your Axion plane.

I would advise you not to spend too much money at this stage. Many of these RTF all inclusive kits are cheap and cheerful really designed as an introduction to the hobby. If you enjoy the plane that you have and want to expand on the hobby then you might want to consider getting some good radio gear. This is one area that quality is a must. Spectrum make a fantasic set (DX6i)at a reasonable price and Futaba, slightly more expensive is another well known quality radio set. One final thing to watch out for when interchanging electronic parts is to ensure that the ESC(electronic speed controller) is compatible with the battery and motor.

The mustang is also not a good model to learn on, Most beginners will learn on a larger, high wing plane not a small low wing model. It will be very fast, twitchy and unforgiving. Have a look at a Chris Foss Wot 4 that you can buy as a foamie, ARTF built up or a kit to build.

Finally make sure that what ever gear you learn on that you learn in mode 1. That is the most popular mode in the UK and means that you fly with the throttle and ailerons on the right stick and elevator and rudder on the left stick. Most radio gear can be changed but as you said you were learning to fly I thought you may not have realised there is a difference. Finding a local club near you is a must, dont try and learn to fly on your own, it may get very expensive in repairs.

    regards
