Airfix Zero colours. I need a bit of help.

Ok so I have an Airfix zero starte set. This one Mitsubishi Zero Starter Set (A55102) Model Kit and Accessories by Airfix=

The paint you can see clearly shows white. Also the aircraft looks white in the picture on the box. My set tells me to paint it in 90 (biege green) and the colour I used has came out green. so why is the picture showing white?

A look here shows the same starter set but with no white paint. 1:72 Mitsubishi A6M2b Zero Standard Kit and Starter Set from Airfix

I dont get it and I'm starting to think they've put the wrong paint in the tub or box.

ive looked through books and the plane does look white, not biege green.

any ideas? Its driving me mad.

Not sure where the Beige Green comes in to it. All the Zero's that I have seen pictures of have either been a very pale grey or a rich deep green. Either way NOT beige green.

So I think its a boo boo. There is always a chance that the one Zero Airfix researched was a weird colour.....

Not a Jap expert (or any other kind for that matter) hopefully some one with a better knowing will chip in with the correct colour to use.

I'm reading elswhere that its the closest colour to white that comes in small tubs.

Surely that cant be right? Even if I can find out what shade of white I would be happy to buy it.

I can see me emailing airfix over this.

The colour is a very hotly debated one , but it isnt white, more like a very pale greenish grey , not a million miles from Humbrol 90 beige green! The concensus is that the paint could have oxidised and faded on the aircraft perhaps explaining the very pale ,almost white appearance on some photos. if it was me I would just spray it in Tamiya XF 12 IJN grey but if youre brushing your paints and want to use the airfix paints then i would mix the beige green with some white at a ratio m of about 1 third white 2 thirds beige green. hope this helps , cheers tony

I have airbrushed the beige green on it as an experiment. It was my first experience of airbrushing and as such I was kind off playing around.

I might try mixing my starter paints or I might try buying special airbrush paints.

I feel a bit conned now, I like the white on the box.

If I were you I wouldn't use those little pots of paint Airfix give you in their starter sets.In my experience they are not very good.Humbrol,Revell and just about every other paint manufacturers paints are much better quality.

I don't know who makes them.But they are poor quality.Ive not tried Humbrol acrylics myself so don't know if they are the same or better.Last christmas I was given a Spitfire with those pots of paint.I tried them out and thought they were pretty crap.The best acrylics I've tried are Vallejo and in my opinion they are superb.I also use Humbrol and Xtracolour enamels and Tamiya acrylics.All give excellent results in my opinion.

I have about 40 of those little Airfix pots, all unopened. I've been keeping them, as I'm a hoarder. If they are no good then I shall chuck them out.

If anyone wants them however, l'll stick them in the post?

I'll second that, i think they're very poor also and certainly don't airbrush well.

Likewise I haven't tried Humbrol Acrylics as I have several of Tamiyas and they work very well, Humbrols enamels I find very good however, airbrushed or brushed.

The one time I did airbrush with them it was a bit ropey. I need to nip into town to buy some real airbrush paint.
