    Bare Metal Foil.

    Hi Folks,

Currently trying unsuccessfully to Bare Metal Foil a Beaufighter cockpit canopy, every time I try to trim the foil or handle the canopy the foil falls off or just won't stick in the first place. I initially washed off the canopy with 99% alcohol so it should be clean, I am wondering about slightly roughing up the frame. Any suggestions would be welcome, oh and the kit is Tamiya but i can't see their plastic make up being a problem.

    Cheers sharowjohn.:hmmm:

      Hi,

Purchased about 3 months ago time on shelf I don't know, might be better trying Micro Metal Foil Adhesive and Sainsbury's foil.

      Cheers sharowjohn.

I have used Johnsons Klear as an adhesive, for attaching very thin acetate and etch foil in the past.

Give it a try on a spare piece of plasticard first to see how long the Klear takes to tack off!

You can buy metal foil in tape form from air conditioning ducting suppliers. It is slightly heavier than cooking foil and very useful for many modelling purposes.

I have used it to make canvas covers in 1/35th scale as it folds extreemly realistically. The adhesive on the back is very effective and will adhere to your canopy very well.

I use laggers tape (self adhesive BMF) all the time. makes for great leather effect on seats etc. very easy to work with.

top tip.... don't cut the bit too small coz you struggle to get the backing off...

I've had some BMF for a few years now and never had any issues using it to cover my canopies, perhaps you were unluky enough to get a bad batch.
