Franz von Werras 109 camo question?

    Hi all,

Wonder if someone could help or point me in the right direction please.

I'm about to build Tamiyas Bf109E-4 and wish to finish it in Franz von Werras colours but I have conflicting info.

I've purchased a set of Techmods relevant decals along with the aircraft colour schemes but the paint plans are indicating the wing tips are not painted white, whereas other info. and photos on the web show the wing tips clearly in white.

So, who's wrong or right? Do I paint the tips white or not?

    Atb, Colin.

        Thanks Al,

I thought the Techmod sheet was wrong, I even bought some Vallejo white for it

I did the tailplane tips white on mine too. No hard evidence for that, but others in JG 3 were.

Both the front engine cowling (upper) and the cowling over the MG breaches were replacements from other aircraft. We know they were marked with the werknummern from different aircraft. The front cowling was NOT white but a lighter or newer RLM 65. The line of the upper camouflage demarcation on this panel did not match that on the other replacement behind it.

The demarcation between upper and lower colours at the front of the wing was very high, above the line of the weapons.

          Cheers

            Thanks Steve.

Did'nt realise about the white wing tips on the rear as well? Lovely build by the way.

If you don't mind, could I use your pics as reference when putting mine together? They show the panel difference nice and clear.

Of course, I posted them to show my take on the scheme. Most people don't do the white tips to the horizontal stabilisers as they aren't mentioned in the Crashed Enemy Aircraft Report, but I know some other JG 3aircraft were marked thus and decided to go with them on my version of von Werra's machine.

Despite the presence of Simba the lion cub this is not von Werra's aircraft, though it is often captioned as such.

Here's a side on showing how I interpreted the demarcations on the various replacement panels.

              Cheers
