I have found two Dornier 217 E kits:

    ITALERI 1250 1/72 Dornier Do-217 E-3/4/5 | eBay

    and:

    Italeri 1/72 Dornier Do-217 E3 E4 E5 Bomber 2150 | eBay

(The second was mentioned by flounder-al). The first is cheaper than the second.

The box illustrations look the same (except for style) and and the model numbers are the same.

What do you think is the difference, kit-wise? Would the actual kits be the same, or is the cheaper one an old mould which might be unatractive to make?

    Thanks.

Thanks. However, I am holding out for a 217 E. If that doesn't work out, (see my question a minute ago above) I will get this one.

The Italeri Historic Upgrade kits are generally older kits which include more information and decal options. I have the Ju88A-4 upgrade kit. It provided a handbook on the aircraft (poorly translated I might add) with a plethora of marking and colour options. The only bonus really over a standard Italeri kit is that at the end you will have lots of spare decals and a little book to go with it. I have no problem with the Italeri older kits, even with raised lines they are subtle and not a problem.

As you can see the Do217M has many external and obvious differences to the earlier 217E version. As for the E version kits you listed above, there is no difference, they are the same kit.
