    B-17 damage

I see a few B-17s being modelled at the moment and was looking at a compilation of film of the aircraft in action. It reminded me just how robust they were! Many will have seen the famous image of a B-17 almost cut in half after colliding with a fighter which still returned "home". I saved this screen shot of another one with damage that would surely have downed most aircraft of the era. I'm guessing that this is flak damage.

    Amazing!

    Cheers

Don't know if you know about this site Steve but take a look at it. Had this saved in my faves for a while and it's amazing what the aircraft came back with

Nice one Allyne,I think I have seen that before but it's great to rediscover it,thanks very much. Some of those aircraft definitely should not have carried on flying! The pictures are a testament to the robust construction of the type and a credit to Boeing.

For sure that was one tough bomber! Even as tough as it was I do'nt think I would've chosen being a bomber crewman over being a ground grunt

One truely amazing plane, love the look of the b17 and the way it could take the damage it did and still get its crew back home. If any of you read i can recommend (The man who flew the memphis belle) Robert Morgan in his book he says about how good the b17 was and the punishment it would take compared to the fragile b29 superfortress daughtless dotty and how he prefered the b17.

Has anyone seen this before? I know it's only a painting but the story behind it is true, think it would make an impressive Dio.
