    Lancaster

    Ouch it near hit me.

Lancaster flew low right over out flat today. Must have been or going to Normandy Landings affair.

It was very low and very noisy and what a sight.

Landed at Jersey Airport probably to re-fuel. Day before we had a Lynx flying around us. Something to do with a car /motor cycle rally/races on the road couple of hundred yards from our flat.

Not sure I can stand all this excitement.

The BBMF Lancaster is based at Conningsby, just a couple of miles from where I live and it regularly flies over us on practise flights or leaving or returning from a display. We have got pretty good at recognising the four Merlins now and are ready to dive outside if we hear it in the area. The rumble as is flies over makes the hairs stand up on your neck. Also worth noting is that 'Just Jane', based at East Kirkby is doing taxi rides to generate enough funds to get her back in the air. You don't get to take off but sitting with your head in the upper turret while all four engines rev up was an amazing experience. I dearly hope they get her airworthy again.

This August another Lancaster from Canada is coming over and they are going to do a series of events together for around six weeks. I will be at work for this entire time

Two Lancasters flying together would be a sight one would never forget. A shame you will be working Richard. Sick leave?

I'd still have to pay a round trip from Florida and back so I guess not!

No Joe to quick and would have lost the fun trying to get a shot.

Same Lancaster Moni. It landed in Jersey before it carried on to Normandy which is hardly any distance from. Not in Jersey at the time but they say that you could hear the guns.

it would of been so great to see one flying and the sound of the 4 engines as well, i watched the ABC news but they did not show it again in a fly over ,but just the jets, and i watch the new to see it again

Hope you get the chance Moni to see it in the real.

It is a sight and a half. The Lancaster in my view is not the most beautiful of aircraft but it is so iconic.

To see it rumble across the sky what it did the noise as you say. When it is overhead it is very exciting.

Problem is I think you will have to come to it as it is to old to come to you.

cant beat the sound of a Merlin or two.....or more

a few years ago i was at the Waddington Air Show.....at one end of the runway was parked the Lanc, a Spitfire and a Hurricane..........they had them all warming up at once when it came to getting ready to take off.....glorious sound!

this is how close i was

Did you see the DC3 that flew along the east coast yesterday.

My wife and I were at 'Gorey' when it flew along just off the harbour wall.

I couldn't get the camera out of my bag quick enough to get a shot of it.

I remember seeing a Lancaster flying over my school in 1973 or 4 when it was going to Hendon. We heard a loud engine noise, turned around and saw the Lancaster flying low. I was surprised how slow it was.
