NYPD 1977 Dodge Monaco 1:25 AMT

So...I haven't built anything in well over a year (since my little girl was born). And I was given a few older kits and I have purchased a few since.

So I decided that the Goon Car/Gotham City Police car kit that I have was ripe for making and a change of style.

Thought about maybe doing a Roscoe P Coltrane Police car from The Dukes Of Hazard, but it would be essentially white, and maybe a little boring.

So...as I have a friend who is a NYPD cop (20th pct), I decided to give it the blue and white livery of the NYPD from the mid 70's to the late 90's.

The kit is an AMT 1:25 scale kit. Parts don't fit too well. Bit or warping here and there.

My friend had started on it a little, but had only glued a few engine parts together. Kit does not come with the cage/screen behind the front seats, so after a coat of primer etc, this was the first part I have started to work on.

Kit comes with Gotham City Police decals but I have some blank decal sheets, so will make up some NYPD one's myself.

I used the wire mesh from a frying pan splash guard that I got in the local pound shop, as the wire screen. Only downside to this is that when its cut, tiny shavings of the wire tend to go everywhere...have already had 2 wire splinters removed.

Quick update...car has been masked off and the roof sprayed white.

Wheels have been painted Ford Olympic Blue...which seems to be a really nice blue for this build.

    Cage/screen has been painted black.

Yes, I have to say the blue is much nicer than I was anticipating. There's a real richness and vibrancy to it.

Interior compartment completed. Tamiya Desert Yellow used through my airbrush for this procedure.

MIG neutral wash used on the dash and seats.

I had an old punctured pram tyre inner tube lying around. So I cut a few bits and used them as floor mats.

Screen/cage was applied to the rear of the front seats.

Have given the roof another blast of white. So once that's nice and dry, I will mask it off and hit the body with the Olympic Blue.

Very nice work, clever use of of the inner tube to simulate the rubber mats.
