Ok new numberplate on. Masked for clear coat. One coat done, will do a second pass in an hour and that's cured.

Pinstripe done on driver side. I then damaged the numberplate again as the decal slid after application of the clear coat And I tried to slide it over but it broke. So the only numberplate I have left is the generic gti plate. I'm not tempting fate ill do these last with the wing Mirror. Now going to leave it for 24 hours before clear coating the work I just do not want to touch it I'm afraid I'm going to damage my work.

            Wow!!

Take me back to the 80's!

That is sweet!! The last time I drove a MkI, it was in the guise of a City Golf Sport in sunshine yellow and white trim and bumpers........

Thank you guys for your comments. I haven't been able to do much on the model as kids have had chickenpox. Work has gone mental too so it's taken a back burner for the moment. Might get some time on the model on Sunday and a few days next week.

managed to steal some brief time on the car. Just done clearcoat on the pinstripe, will do a second coat and call it a night just the other side to do and then got rear lights to paint; put on the handles, stick the areal on, some decals on the bonnet A final gloss coat then some silk clear finish on the black painted parts a polish and done. Should be completed end of month.

Done other side of pinstripe tonight. Not very happy though, the clearcoat I used on the 1st side has cracked. Not happy about that. I have sanded it back and just left the areas immediately around the pinstripe. DO NOT USE HUMBROL CLEAR. IT'S RUBBISH.

I'm going to redo the body with humbrol gloss coat that should be ok

Should have read this before wasting my time with Humbrol clear. I'm pretty sure if I sand it back a bit more and mix up some gloss coat with thinners lightly mist it on and build it up it should hide the cracking enough to get away with it. I have chucked the clear in the bin.

Just an update. Will be doing the gloss coat (again) using the standard humbrol glosscoat through my airbrush Over the weekend and hopefully start edging towards completion. James my youngest has now got chickenpox so once that's over with I might get some proper time back on the model. I did however pick up my next model and a new spray booth today. I also ordered the new tamiya 300 sl kit which should come in on Monday.
