Well I am really pleased with the look so far. I think that the weathered chassis looks fantastic against the crisp body and clean engine. Just what a real car would look like of this vintage even after only 4 or 5 years. (They didn't have the rust protection modern cars today have remember, so I wanted to make it honest by trying to portray that)


Chassis and engine is complete now ready to start on the bulkhead and internal floor pan and wheel arches, and finally start priming and sanding the bodywork for a lovely mica blue metalic finish.

looks good so far, I really look forward to the body getting painted! good work on the engine

Body probably won't get started till at least mid September dougie. Going to go for that spray gun and some decent paint.

Yeah, will be good. I take it the body is bare atm? Just if you go for zero paints or similar you will need a good non acrylic primer.


Not sure what you have used in the past, don't want to teach you to suck eggs but rather learn from my mistakes and do a top job

Yeah no that's cool. I have never used anything but humbrol enamel. It's ok for detail work but when spraying bodies it's hard to get the mix right, it takes ages to harden and you tend to get dust attracted to it even when covered.


I need something which has better colour saturation, is fast drying and lays on without running or going thick.

The zero stuff flashes off really quickly. If you spray enamel you will be used to the nasty vapour thing, I'm not sure how much worse zero stuff is, maybe they are as harmful as each other but it has toluene in it which is quite nasty. I spray it in shed with a booth and a mask- I have a1 filters but I'm going to get a2 for extra safety and some goggles. Only get 1 pair of lungs and eyes.


I wouldn't even consider using 2k clear, just the 1k. I'm Not taking stupid risks over models no matter how quick and hard it dries.

The floorpan on the kit I thought could let the finish down as it looked plastic moulded. The real cars were hand made floor panels that were stitch welded together. So to try and mimic this I filled in the seat recess marks and started poly tubing the edges to define the handmade look underneath.


I'm hoping once cured , a little sanding and metalcoat will make it look realistic against the chassis.

Hmmm the effect looks good. Handmade panels, have been primed and will be metalcoated and polished to look like aluminium

Yeah thanks dougie, its just enough to trick the eye into looking like welded panels and not a lump of moulded plastic. Quite pleased with the look.

Thanks David. Its taking time but the results are beginning to come together. I'm looking forward to getting my new spray gun for the body in September. I really want to do this model justice.
