Thanks chaps. I have completed the final prep stage degreased the body, just checking for any rough edges and will be building up the base coat shortly.
For masking the engine bay i cut out some cardboard around the shape of the bonnet and layed masking tape over and sealed edges with maskol.
Had a few rough areas still to sand out. Did another base coat and smoothed up to 8000 grit. Hopefully the last topcoat will be as smooth as i want it to look.
Bodywork has been completed just mucromeshing now this week. Bit annoyed as the body moulding lines have come through the paint so i have no idea what happened there. But i can live with it i suppose.
This weekends work is now wrapped up bodyshell is all painted and polished. Quite pleased with the way the paint has come out. Not massively happy with tamiya, the body shell is poorly moulded. For a kit that cost nearly £50 its a bit naughty, im sure most of the royalties go to aston martin on this and its been built to a ltd cost. The 300 sl was light years ahead in terms of quality. Even with all the sanding and filling i just cant seem to illiminate some of the moulding lines on the rear quarter panels and they were hidden well on the priming stage but have come through on the clearcoat stage.
The shrinking dimple on the bonnet logo got covered though and there is some bad shrinking on the wingmirrors which need to be filled; again not good enough for a £50 kit.
But never mind im not doing it all again and it still looks ok. Plus got loads still to do yet.
One of the pictures i took of the before polishing and after on the right-hand side of the car. Looks good.
Wing mirrors are painted as also the rear logo bit.
Headlights in. Although the left hand headlight pushed up the paint between the bonnet and lamp assembly. So i touched it in it doesn't look great but honestly speaking im leaving it there as a reminder to let the paint harden fully before doing stuff like that again. I had to remove the bmf as the polishing process lifted it up so will reapply later on.
