Tell you what. Its amazing what a bit of practice does. I hated BMF on the 300sl but im really beginning to like the effect. BMF isnt easy especially when you have fingers like sausages but after a bit of practice it beats painting these areas in.

I layed down the bmf in three parts burnished in with cocktail stick folded over and then sealed the whole area with 2 coats of clearcoat on both sides

to stop it from lifting up as the model ages. (The 300sl bmf is starting to lift away in places now)

Just doing the rear chrome trim. All complete just got the right corner to do but got to help bath the kids. Just noticed a blob of glue that seems to have run out of the rear splitter. So im goint to file that with a pin nose file to reduce the appearance.

Bit more progress. The rear of the body is pretty much complete. Just got to put on numberplate and the reflectors. Cleaned up that blob of glue also and popped in the rear light body trims. Also masked windscren and painted in the black surround and popped in the windscreen wipers.

Rear window painted & installed. Wasnt happy with the wingmirrors so have sanded back again and will give another go over. The black was too glossy and it just wasnt upto the standard I wanted.

Just got the front numberplate to do and the side vents along with wingmirrors and rear reflectors before starting work on underchassis and interior.

Lovely looking build so far, you have painted it to a high standard mate, look forward to the finished article.

I'm desperate to get some build time on my Renault 5 turbo and this is making me more frustrated haha maybe at the weekend I can grab a wee bit of time.

Thanks dougie. Im quite pleased with it too, i think the paintwork would be slightly better on the original body as more time was spent on prep that the replacement one. But its ok yes and most importantly enjoyable.
