    Airfix MK1 Ford Escort

Just picked up my brushes and tools after a couple of years off and thought I would start posting. Picked myself up starter kit but can't decide whether to stick to the instruction color of red, or go with a custom design like the one in the attached image or even something a bit different..

I don't have an airbrush so can only do fairly straighforward designs.

    All thoughts welcome.

I can remember seeing loads of Mk1's painted like your image in my younger days. I would say go for it but I could just be bias having seen ones like it

Can I suggest you go with the box to start? It will get you back into the swing of things without complicated masking etc... I would suggest priming and painting the body with halfords grey primer and a one of their ford red colours. You will get a better finish if you don't have an airbrush. You can even get halfords clear coat to go over the paint for a brilliant finish.

Edit* Also I forgot to say belkits have a great new escort releasing soon in the other colour scheme for rally and the kits look amazing.

Great car the Mexico, but what about the RS1600 ? Surely the best Mk1.

The blue and white one above is an RS2000, so you will have to make up some quarter bumpers and flare the front arches just a touch.

I totally agree ( my pal from when dinosaurs ruled the earth bough a RS1600 ( cat write off ) then he bought a mk1 1100 and swapped all the gear across to the 1100 ( basically rebuilt the car and heh presto the RS was reborn with rallye arches and the white paint blue stripe, lowered, 2 recaro seats, roll bar ( even remember the battery the boot as the servo was that big

I remember racing the dolomite sprints of the day off the lights!!

                    Showing my age now
