I know I couldn’t kick one over now. Mine had a decompressor lever but I never worked out how to use it LOL. No internet in those days I just used to get it to TDC, the. Throw myself up and come down on it straight legged. Fired every time…..but you needed boots with a good heel.

I remember seeing a kid launched over the bars kicking an old knucklehead hog that kicked back.

Thumbs and knees spring to mind numbed them a few times, always when you least expected it,

A bad kick back only happened to me once. That was when I realised the value of boots with a good heel :anguished:. My foot slipped off as I was kicking it over. Never quite went over the bars, but it was close. My ankle was hit by the kick lever and was so bruised it looked like I was wearing a purple sock :anguished: . The kick start bump stop was fractured and blown straight through the engine casing. I could get a spare bump stop no problem, but the casing was another matter. I stripped it, cleaned and degreased it thoroughly, roughed up the edges of the hole with a coarse file to aid adhesion, and built up a repair patch out of 24 hour araldite over several days. Last job was reinforcing the outside with a square of aluminium sheet. It was a right bodge job, but I was an impoverished 19 year old and it stayed oil tight for the couple of years I owned the bike.

I had a sump like that after a run through the woods with no belly pan a tree stump split the alloy sump and like you, araldite to the rescue....on the 500 it was a bolt on affair and like unicorn snot to find at an affordable price no eBay back then!!

hi all frame & wheels engine started but need to. Pick up some paint for a couple of bit so its on hold for now, wheels are on hold now till I get the alclad, so just sticking bits I can together in preparation, fairing carrier on the frame is a bit flimsy no way that will survive the build!!

Ok managed a bit of the RC this evening, cylinder’s assembled tricky but a really nice piece, carbs including the DP bell mouth intakes, bottom of cylinder crankcase and even managed to paint the sump and rocker covers busy night
