Italeri Scania R620 Topliner.

As this is my first plastic build for over 30 years this may take some time. After leaving the plastic behind I spent about 20 years building and flying RC model aircraft but since then I have been spending all my spare time on my motor bikes, but it's time to get modelling again.
Just starting to get the chassis and various lumps together for painting.

Do you guys reckon I should prime the black bits, or just paint right on the items, you can tell by the question that this stuff is all new to me.

If it was me I'd primer all the parts just to give a uniform base to work on, it also shows any imperfections which can then be remedied before putting down color. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice Mark, I fully intend to prime the cab, mudguards and side panels but was not too sure about the other parts and I am sure I will be asking more questions as the build goes on.

I got a little bit more done on the truck, front axle, steering and some other bits and bobs.

Primed a lot of the other stuff but will have to wait on some paints coming before I can go on with it.

One thing I did notice when assembling the steering system was that the rod from the steering box to the axle was too long resulting in the wheels only turning to the right and back to straight ahead, lucky I checked before making a permanent fix.

Thanks for your kind words John, the primer is just Halfords acrylic from a rattle can and it seems to be OK. I test sprayed a few bits of plastic to try it out before committing to the model to get an idea of how it would work out.

I have done a little more to the model over the last few days, not very much but with half decent weather I have been out and about on the bike.
A wee bit of painting.

Main parts of inner cab primed along with a couple of other bits.

Slow progress, but I am re-learning this as I go. I have started to assemble the cab having found from another build thread somewhere that you can fit the completed inner as a separate unit with a small modification to one of the door pockets, I do hope the guy is right!

Thanks for the comments, I have been spending time looking to see just how much I can build as sub assemblies before committing to paint. This is the first Italeri kit I have built and although it is coming along OK there are a few things that could be better, including the instructions which I am sure were written by the same guy that does the assembly sheets for Ikea. Anyhoo, I should have some pictures tomorrow........................but don't hold your breath. :smiling3:

A bit more progress with the truck, cab shell finished and given a coat of primer. No prizes for spotting the mistake I'm afraid.

Some internal parts painted, my first ever go with an airbrush which shows me at the bottom of a steep learning curve but I am sure I will get the hang of it eventually.

Onwards and upwards as they say.

A bit more progress to report on the build today.
Inner cab half done.

Engine nearly done, fiddly job with lots of badly fitting bits that took time to rectify.

Sorry about the last picture, don't know how that came about but I could not be bothered to go into the loft at this time of night and take another.

A better picture of the engine, bit of a shaky hand when painting the Scania logo but I will tidy it up later.

Dashboard finished with instrument decal.

Inner cab almost complete but will have to wait until the cab painting is complete before fitting it all together, hopefully the method I am using for the build will work, after all, how hard can it be?
