Andrew's resurrected 1/72 Armourfast Farmhouse

So thanks for all the support on the journey for this old shelf queen that was started six years, one month and 11 days ago........ :tired:

To finish it off I did the following:

• As Tim suggested, dry-brushed the creeper thing on the side in a lighter colour - maybe a bit too much in hindsight.
• As John suggested added moss, using my DIY flock. I thought I had overdone it but a quick search on the internet revealed amazing amounts of moss on some roofs.
• Gave it a coat of matt varnish, just to seal it and try to kill any sheen, especially on the roof.
• Added windows. I did this using some plastic sheet I had from some old packaging I'd kept for the purpose. I used Deluxe Materials Glue 'n' Glaze to attach it. From what gather it seems to be an uber PVA glue. You can use it to do individual window panes but the gap at 1/72 was too big. I was worried about the window panes being too flat and new, like double glazing. However, where the glue had seeped out as I applied the plastic sheet and then brushed most of it away, it left an old/used/worn looking effect that Junior and I really like.

It may be the most realistic finish but for our purposes it will work really well - it need to be robust, which rules out anything approaching realistic. In short I'm really pleased with it!

The windows look a bit OTT below due the angle I had to use to show the effect and of course the dreaded digital zoom but it does look more muted in real life at a sensible angle and viewing distance.

Thanks Andy. Really pleased with it overall. Even thought of getting another one if one turns up at the right price to see if I can do a better job.

A better job he says.....Andrew, this is fantastic as it is. I really can't believe this house is for war gaming. It should be used in a dio and not to be played with where it might get damaged. You 2 have done a seriously good job on her. Kudos to you both!!!

Allen, thank you very much indeed, it has turned out well. My only real 'gripe' is that the building is not quite square, it's obvious in the base and one of the overhead shots. As for a dio, maybe I should get another one for that purpose!!

Thanks Tim. Unfortunately, the dry-brushing didn't quite work out as I had planned. I should have used a lighter colour than I did initially and unfortunately, it ended up matting it down a bit as I brushed it on, so it lost a bit of volume/depth. Nevertheless, the technique definitely shows some promise and I just need to play with it a bit more.
