    Honest Al's Used Cars

Today I decided to try my hand at making my first building from scratch for a diorama. "Honest Al's Used Cars Chevrolet". I used a cardboard box for the base, which I carved up considerably. I lined the inside and out with white gorilla tape both to hold it together and cosmetic purposes. I also used glue. I painted it in part, and printed off some images on cardstock for the floor, signs and logos. I used clear plastic windows from another box for the windows. Unfortunately, they got a bit scratched up. Added an extra light I had been saving. Based the design loosely on some other dealership models I've seen. I think it came out ok for my first attempt. Did it all in 1 day, from start to finish. Haven't added the background just yet.

Today I widened the new shelf with a new board, added a parking lot, an oak tree and an auto repair shop next door. My Grandfather actually built the auto repair shop from scratch, back in the 80's. I'm happy to be able to display it again. Al has gone into business with Rob. Because every auto dealership needs an auto shop, right? Some kids on skates are enjoying the freshly paved asphalt.

Nice job ! Reminds me of a friend of mine who had just been given a job selling new Fords in South East London in the early seventies ...
The managing director was showing him around the dealership after the interview and as they entered the showroom, my friend remarked on the Black and White chequered floor and laughingly said 'Who chose the floor tiles? It makes it look like a Fish n Chip shop!' ........... "I did" replied the boss - oops!! :tears-of-joy: :tears-of-joy:

Today I finally added the background. I also added a checkered border on the exterior of the building. I think it makes it pop a little more, and matches the interior. I added some new posters inside, and added a bunch of new cars (mostly Chevy's, of course). Added a soda pop machine outside, and you can see there's some kid having a cold one. All the improvements have attracted a group of young women to come and pose for a photo op.

New Arrival: Hot Wheels 1965 Chevy Corvette Stingray, made in 2019. Mail call delivered it today. I love it. Just wish it had chrome rims.
