Currently building a few German figures in 1:35 scale, just while I was procrastinating about my next main build.
Much to my surprise, although these were just a stop gap to fill some time, I'm actually really enjoying it and am now doing a few more figures.
But it seems a waste to build the figures and then have no-where to put them, so.... A nice small diorama seems like a good idea to show them off.
The only other kit I have built in the same scale (so far) 1:35 was my German Halftrack, so the German figures will go nicely with this.
The figures I have are a lookout with bino's, a prone machine gun shooter, a kneeling machine gun shooter, plus couple of other figures.
So the basis of my diorama build will be a small base board, maybe A5, with the halftrack and some figures, maybe a small hill, maybe part of a building/wall and some natural features, eg: grass or gravel, or an old mud road, etc.
I want the terrain to be a sort of rough, uneven patch of land, maybe grass, with some rocks and a few bumps, with an old dilapidated brick wall or part of a building. The scenario could maybe be the halftrack and crew keeping lookout for the enemy from behind a small hillock or behind the old building / wall.
I have obtained some foam board, and intend to shape it. I also have some fine plaster and PVA which I intend to then mix and sculp on top of the foam board into the rough terrain. I think I might get some 2mm static grass and sprinkle onto PVA to create short grass. I don't have a static grass applicator and apparently long grass is not recommended for the sprinkle method? I may also have some fine gravel or sand and a few small rocks, etc.
I have a couple of 1:35 accessory kits, eg: sand bags, brick wall, fuel cans/oil drums, which I intend to add to the diorama.
In my head this seems viable, what if any, are your thoughts on such a project? Cheers
NB: as a kid I think I did do maybe one diorama, (possibly two) but they were literally a small tank, couple of Airfix (or Matchbox) 1:72 soldiers stuck on a bit of thick card with a plain painted base, not very detailed or well thought out, and not very good TBH, but I was only about 12!
