    Planning a diorama...

    Hi all,

I am planning to do a diorama once I have finished my current projects. I have never done one before so am basically looking for some tips (I will be reviewing the other threads here in due course).

The basic plan will be to have a street scene (I havent decided whether it'll be Normandy or Italy yet), one or two damaged buildings, some airborne troops in the buildings, a small convoy (3 or 4) of German vehicles + troops. This will all be in 1-72 scale. I will also have 2 aircraft attacking the convoy. One will be in 1/72 scale just finishing his run. The second will be in probably 1/48 scale, much higher above the dio, just starting his dive - this dio will be primarily viewed from above. The larger scale aircraft giving an idea of height/perspective. I have seen this done in another setting and it looked quite effective.

This will be quite an ambitious project for me, and I am currently working out how to strike a balance between the dio being too sparse and too busy.

My key problem area will be the air attack itself. I havent yet decided whether the planes will be bombing the convoy or strafing it. Ultimately I dont know how to illustrate either in a static model.

If you were doing this diorama, how would you simulate:

    1. bullets peppering the ground/vehicles

    2. exploding bombs

    3. muzzle flash from the aircrafts machine guns

Thoughts on the above 3 points, and any other ideas/thoughts are more than welcome.

    Thanks,

    Chris
