Looking very good Ron. The reed 'logs' look superb as does the mossy entrance. I think you have a masterpiece in the making.

O.K. my friends, this is the completed diorama scenery. I might have a brainstorm and perhaps add a bit more here and there later, but I am happy with the result and relieved to have finished what was a complete 'Suck it and see' new area for me.
I feel a lot better for spending some time in the Pacific sunshine too!!
The vegetation is bits of 'Dead things' from the diddy pond plus a 'tree' I found which had some moss growing on it so this was perfect for the cave entrance.
I struggled a bit to find suitable green foliage but eventually stumbled across a bit of fern summat like tropical but the best find was the bits off a Passion Flower plant which is still growing like a gud'un and has twiddly bits with which it clings to things, these look remarkably like vines. I cut pieces off, complete with stalks and cut the leaves carefully lengthways with a pair of scissors to look more like tropical leaves.
I was pleasantly surprised with the result.
I also added some more sand which I made paler with the addition of Polyfilla and a couple more boulders. Finally I cut some bits and bobs of stalks and grass and scattered them around from a dizzy height.
I hope you approve so far......I will present the diorama with the figures shortly, when I can pluck up the courage to go 'public' with the final finished article.
Any thoughts for additions, boys? Or indeed subtractions!
Ron
OOPS! two pickies almost the same, sorry!

Have to say Ron, that looks stunning. It is clear that the Navy gave it a pasting prior to the 'grunts' going in, really looks like a film set. My only concern is with the live vegetation. What will happen when it starts to die off?
Really look forward to seeing it with figures, don't forget to have a chap humping a flame thrower up ready to smoke them out.Comment

Going to be something a bit bigger than a poor sod with a flame thrower!

Wa Ho! Looks like I got me some sunshine today. I will be able to take some final pickies now.
Can't have a tropical Isle with miserable weather, can we?!LOL
Slightly off thread...isn't it great that more people are having a go at dioramas?
I get a real buzz out of seeing other 'efforts' and more importantly that the builders are enjoying doing them.Comment

Looking very nice as usual Ron , we are all looking forward to seeing your dio unfold , so keep them photos coming mate .
I agree Ron , its great that there are a few of us making dios and posting pics of how we are progressing , especially for us new boys picking up the little tricks and hints - better than any books or DVD`s you can get.

That looks really good Ron. I like how you've used the scatter to give that authentic look to the ground, rather than just dirt or sand, which is what I would have done! As Richy says, watching something like this grow is the best way to learn. PatrickComment
