Some ideas/tips for weathering / highlighting / dios

These have probs already been mentioned but, who knows?

Scatter - use either sand (wilkos sell sand specifically for pets - budgie cages, aquariums etc) or sawdust. Put them in a container/jar. To container add water upto level of scatter. Add either food colouring OR thinned out colour wash, water colour paints etc. let the scatter absorb the colored water, allow to dry ..... now have cheap scatter matterial, for grass, or dare i say it it sand.

Sandpaper for budgie cages as a mat for sand/desert scene. Alternatively spray with coloured water/food dye to give grass/ground mats.

Use of chalk pastels as a wash - mud or soot. Sand down the pastel (bought in a cheap art shop, eg Poundland sold large coloured chalk for surprise surprise ...a... £1) use the powder from the sanded chalk.

Oil pastels can be used as oil stains/marks along model bodies.

Permanent ink pens, such as cd markers, for detailing and panel lines.

Metallic ink pens as above. simply wipe with tissue ( before the ink is dry) to highlight areas

Cheap metallic eye shadow for highlighting metallic objects/surfaces, eg exhausts on aircraft

Tin foil. - Scrunch ? some up. Open up carefully as not to tear. Spray on primer of your choice, then colour of paint to produce a water/sea-scape, add highlights etc.

Rust - Similar idea to scatter. The difference being, get old wire wool or pan scourer, put in jar add water. leave to dry. After sufficient drying time some powder should be left at bottom ..... real powdered rust
