I either do figures okay...or more often than not they look like a melon up the bum...I suppose in 1/72 doesn't really mind though as it is more highlights.

1/72 will look good as unless your five inches from them the detail isn't going to show and I think if you over compensate on the detail so you can see it it looks out of scale
If you're at all worried about the finished figures ( I don't see why mind) do what I do....Paint them, then sprinkle them lightly with polyfilla powder and blow off the excess.....instand Greek dust!! This method hides a multitude of sins - certainly in my case!
I have some winter troops and an old hannomag my son didn't finish so I figured doing an eastern front dio with the hannomag as a burnt out reck from a long old battle
