This has turned into a small dio so I`ve decided to move over here with it.


This how it stands at the moment.


The pic with the tank on the base are a trial run of where things will sit.

I like what you have done here. Your tanks and armour need no words as we all know the quality of your builds.


I like the idea of he diorama ( I'm stil working on my first diorama ) so I'll be looking into how you achieved this wonderful piece of work.

Robert, the way I have done this base is as follows.


1. Laid the basic groundwork.


mixed up some cheap filler using water, wood glue and paint. (I use the cheap tester pots of suitable colour) and throw in some sand.


2. I used an old picture frame for this.


I taped up the edge of the frame, then glued a piece of polystyrene where I wanted the main foliage to go at the back to raise it slightly.


3. I then poured the mixture on to the frame and pushed it into place.


Whilst still wet but hardening i made the basic shapes of the ground work including tank track indentations..


4. When it had dried I dusted it with some Rattle can Humbrol 29.


5, I then added some darker material to where the tanks would dig up the ground as they pass and to the edges of the banking.


6, I now selected the foliage for the back, dug out a hole suitable for each and glued them in with neat wood glue and allowed to dry.

1 Some cutting from a plant, (no idea, don`t ask).


2 A cutting from some plastic aquarium plant.


3 A small piece of Sea Foam (a bought piece of model making foliage)


7. When dry i sprinkled some home made grass onto wood glue brushed onto the bank between the plants..


8. The `grass` in the front corner is a piece of `teddy/horse hair` type material stuck down and sprayed lightly with green.


9. The old trusty H29 was again dusted over it all.


10. I then sealed it with an outdoor sealant from a DIY store.and when that had dried a couple of light coats of Army Painter Anti-Shine


That is where I`m at at the moment with the tank now glued to the base and a couple of figures being done for it.
