Just caught up with this build Ron. Very effective, it looks great.

Great looking dio indeed, love the exposed rebar.
Just a thought tho. Have a look at the core of a plastic coated wire tie of this type.
I stripped a core out of one the other week and thought it would make decent looking rebar. See what you think.Comment

Thanks for the complimentary and amusing posts everyone. Especially our good buddy Ken's. That did make me chuckle, Ken!
Rik, good suggestion, I've tried those tie wires before, but to be honest I found them a bit of a bind (see what I wrote there?) to strip. I prefer the electric cable copper wire. Miles of it for nothing, and as bonus it comes in various 'scale' diameters too.
Thank you for the idea none the less. I appreciate you taking the trouble to post the photo too.

In this next stage, I'm starting to try and add some detail to the general damage.
Here's three shots of the damage to my 'cheese slab' building. I've given the walls another slurry coat of paint and added some more concrete lumps to the re. bars.
The right hand end. I dug up the pavement with a screwdriver, then gave it a dark wash of acrylics
Here I've added more bits of concrete, shifted the edging kerbs about, and added a collapsed wooden floor, made from coffee stirrers and card. I then did a bit of splatter.
....a close up of the pavement damage. Again hacked with a screwdriver and painted with a well watered wash, so the paint would soak in well.
Still plenty to add, but it's a start.....
The sun is finally out here, so time to do some leaf raking - again!
Cheers all,

Thanks Terry. I'm well happy you like the pavement damage.
Glad you like the build so far, Ian.
Cheers Monica. Sometimes simple is best.....
Very funny and well spotted Dave, they do add to it don't they? It was sheer luck I came across this effect when I did that mill dio. a while back. I remember I had to hack a chunk of poly away, and there it was!
Here's that very same bit......
Thanks again for taking the time to post, folks. It's really appreciated.

Superb work all round, I am beginning to develop a picture now, probably a great story at the end of this build.Comment

Cheers Bob. Unlike my previous stuff, there won't be a story at the end.....At least I don't think so. Who knows?
It's hurtling it down outside, so this morning I sat in front of the build and decided the row of buildings looked a wee bit 'samey'.
So I put my thumb on the end one and pushed it in until it all cracked up. I then stitched it together with some re-bars and painted it. I think it has improved the overall look......I hope so, 'cos I sure as hell can't re-build it!
This sort of thing is what I love about building dioramas - getting fresh ideas, no matter how radical.
A bit more 'weathering' is to be added, but here is the alteration.
It's getting there, and I don't think any more major damage is needed, so nearly time to start adding rubble etc.
I hope you approve of this drastic alteration.
Cheers all,
