Hi John, just back in. I admire the tenacity you showed with that tractor.

Looks very challenging for comparison I just assembled an old Airfix tractor that comes with their Stirling bomber and that took me two hours straight OOB. When I was kid it probably would have taken five minutes.

Perhaps we have gone a bit serious with our building and application and with the introduction to overly engineered kits, it has become extra difficult. Sorry you had to go through one of these but it's turned out ok. The fact that it's going to rest in a ditch, the slightly crooked chassis and tracks might just look right.

Dio is looking the bisnizz bridge and all and glad you're starting to enjoy the process. :thumb2:

The last picture from Allen reminded me of the flood we had 13 years ago.

Think you right in that assumption Richard about over engineered kits, as Simon has said we asked for them and now the parts count is over the top and many parts are so small. Often numerous small parts to build up one small section that a few years ago would have been moulded in one .
I think work taught me not to give in, esp when facing a taxing job, so I tend just to find a way. I now think if it won't go together with out being twisted, or the axles falling off I will just produce wreaks.
Thank you for your sentiments about my friend, at least he is out of pain.

Si glad you like it, the weathering was done with some cheap acrylic artists paints. The black for the weathering,. ( Also used on brick work .) I put about a finger nail full into a small jamjar, add half a jar of water and shake ( Putting lid back on first I might add ) this will give a reasonable strength wash, too rich just add some more water, too weak squeeze some more paint in, and mix well .
Also did the lighter brown the same way. Keep them in the drawer with the lid screwed on tightly. Word of warning, when left for some time upon opening the lid can result in a strong smell ! Nothing to worry about, the smell soon goes :smiling::smiling::smiling::nerd:.

Pay attention at the back, Steve put down the cat, no it doesn't want a 3 colour camo pattern on it's coat.
Right having settled the notre troublesome members I shall continue.

The next stage after gluing with PVA the base and allowing to dry overnight, along with the heads where a small amount of PVA had been applied to give a top bullrush flower head.

First thing was to have two Greens in the wet pallet, one slightly darker .

Dry brush in an upward sweep ,turning as you go .


As you can see the brush is lifted off well before the tip, leaving a drier top section .

Once this was done I made up a small milk bottle lid with a dark green and PVA . The ends that were first dipped in PVA were then done in this dark green. Doesn't matter if any is missed as not all the reed bases are totally green.




Now comes the Bullrush head, taking an armour brown I dipped the heads into a small amount of paint, again in a milk carton lid .



While this was drying I applied with a pipette some gloss varnish to the riverbed.







Had to apply some bluetack to the edge, still it managed to leak out. This will take several days to fully dry as it's an oil based varnish. Will do a arcylic top coat when I add the reed and a few other weeds !

Then I primed the figures, I notice some bubbles down the right arm, will sort those out tomorrow, along with a damned seam line:angry: that will have to go as well .

Yes It's a dog, from a German tank crew set, thought the small boy could have it with him.



There is another figure, but at this stage she had disappeared, soon found and given a coat of paint .

Enjoyable painting these, more than normal as they have differing colours, makes a change from uniform brown .




Like to leave the paint next to the figure, then I can't forget what I'd used !

Right, busy morning in the garden, until about 10 when the sun makes it unpleasant.

The hound will have to be cleaned up and stay. Maybe mongrel dogs of Russia
do look like that !:nerd::smiling:

I am staggered by the quality of the dios on the forum at the moment. This is stunningly great work mate. The track marks on the bridge is fantastic attention to detail. Good luck with the reed bed and figures.

While Ivan and the rest of his band of men are paddling in the water and chatting up the local village girls I have been attempting a little figure painting.

Nice to been using something different from green !









Not keen on this face, will need to paint the hair line in and try the eye area, cant do any white of the eyes, or the eye ball so probably end up with the wash.

Thanks they have done.
Not pleased with the photos though, out of focus and too near,shows every blemish that I can't see normally :flushed: .
No the hound didn't have a incident :tongue-out: his mother came from Mongolia, the least said about her the better.:surprised:.

Not felt like doing a thing today, looked at the bench and walked away, spent my time in the garden instead, maybe tomorrow may feel like attempting those faces, maybe not .
