My thoughts exactly. There we are thinking Ron can produce great models and in reality he is just a sort of overseer.

Looks great Ron - much more to scale. Great fun thread as well.

453 - They are neither. Idu imported them from Spannerinia and the size is 570x570.

The South African, Gowaan Fyn de'Qwaari has returned with some more stone and has completed the roof cappings.

The ridge tiles are fixed and Ben de'Ledd has also finished the lead flashing.

      Reality IV.
The 'leadwork' is the same card as the roof tiles, bent and shaped, then glued to the tile profiles. I know the lead should be cut into the stonework, but once all is weathered, this omission will not be noticed.
The ridge tiles are again the same card.

I've just noticed the porch wall entrance is too thin. "IDU!"

I hope you approve of the renovation thus far.

      Cheers.
      Ron
Thank you for your recent submission as per reroofing Dapol Church

Due to certain requirements It won't pass planning 570.
I draw your attention to the following as stated in the Official Guide to refurbishment. ( Available from H.M Stationery dept. price £ 9 .57.)

      Religious Properties
      Page 456, par 19 reads.

All lead work will confirm to planning as of sub section 19 of the Ecclesiastical Building 1850.
The lead must be properly embedded into the stone and dressed accordingly.

Also cardboard tiles are not recommended due to combustion by outside forces.

        Paul, Jim and J. Jobsworth.
Thank you for your excellent posts.

        To J. Jobsworth.
Thank you for your letter condemning certain works on one of God's Churches.
I would like to draw your attention to the following.....

A - You are referring to planning laws dating back to 1850. You of the clipboard and shiny kneed suits brigade had better get up to date.

Sub section 19 you refer to now reads-

'All lead work must be fixed to any sound, dust free surface using epoxy Resin B.S. 570453-358(w) This will prevent any failure of the seal due to the old fashioned method of embedding the lead in the stone/mortar joint and making those silly little 'Knock in' lead wedges and then cement pointing. Which always falls out.

B- The cardboard tiles, far from being combustible have all been pressure treated with Fire Retardant (B.S 043755) Patented by Lord J. Race in nineteen canteen. Similar tiles are fixed to Apollo 55. They survive in a few re-entry degrees, so my tiles are just fine.

So please send an amended certificate by return post, or my 'Boys' on the committee will be paying you a visit. If that doesn't phase you, perhaps take time to remember just who owns the building you are being such a complete a**e about!

        Yours.

              Joseph the Carpenter & Son.

Subject to the planning committee receiving a large wad of 50's paid into Steve Jones off shore account your up dated certificate of approval of the works carried out will be issued
( If you mixed a small amount of lime into your mix it would allow the cement to stay flexible.)

                Brilliant posts, boys. great comments!

                Sorry, 'Jobby', no lime.

The present Mr's Ron used the last drop we had in her drink.

Money on its way, I've called off the Committee visit and informed 'Him up there' of your most welcome and sensible capitulation on this matter.

Before they start painting /weathering proper like, the lads have added the gutter boards not included in the 'Flat pack'.
These are thin card cut into strips, glued on and painted.

Jim, I've just shown the boys your post....
Idu said "Mr. Ron, dis Jeem fella saoons lyk wan top Honkie!"

On the subject of the boys. They only kept me awake briefly last night with their singing.
This morning I was going to tackle Idu about it. I didn't get the chance....

"Hay Mr. Ron, coom an' see waat me an' de bys waas oop to lost nyt."

In some trepidation I followed Idu around to the front of the church.

"Clooas yor eyes. O.K., opan dem!"

There were all my boys lined up and smiling as only they could.
"De owed chorch geeat am rotan, so we borned eet on de fyar, an' den bilded dis foor de greeat peeopel ob de veeleej - Aal for notting. I tink yoo am caalin' eet a leeanch geeat!"

I tried not to show any emotion as I explained it was lych, not lynch!

This is what all the noise was about last night.

"Man, we am sorry, but we ad to naak a bit ob de waal doun to feat de mudder een!"
