Tamiya 1/350 Battleship King George V in Dry Dock, Liverpool, 1944.

When I was musing over the lack of detail on the Heller HMS Hood, I suddenly remembered I had built KG5 a few years ago, shoved it into the loft and promptly forgot all about it - until yesterday!:upside:
I also realised that I had not taken any shots of her construction. So for that I apologize.

I've taken a few pictures of her yesterday and posted this thread as a reminder to me of her existence, just in case I put her back in the loft - and forget her for another few years more!
Still plenty of work to do on the ship.
I hope to model the ship in dry dock during her various alterations and having a re-paint.

Note her new all grey upper works. During the alterations to remove the aircraft catapult etc, the painter chappies are painting over her dazzle paint job in readiness for her Far East duties. They have left her hull whilst they take a tea break!

Now any surface danger is fading, note the mass of new A.A. weaponry throughout the ship.

Build O.O.B., and all brush painted and weathered using Vallejo Air.

    Here she is thus far....

These first few pictures show her hull weathered and a couple of props and her anchors taken off. This is how she will look on the chocks in the dry dock.

Due to the alterations, the ship's boats and cranes have been temporarily moved dockside. The lads are painting over the red Oxide on the new deck.

Once again, I'm sorry, but stage build pictures just don't exist.

    Cheers.

    Hi Ron
That is an unusual idea. I don't recall seeing a model of a ship in dry dock before. Was KG5 really in dry dock in Liverpool in '44 or is this a "what if" dio?

      Hi, Jim.
      Thanks for the interest. :thumb2:

She was indeed in Gladstone Dock Liverpool, between Feb. / July 1944 being prepared for her duties in the Far East against the Japanese.

As an add on, she was also at the same dry dock earlier on, in May 1942, after having been involved in a collision with the destroyer HMS Punjabi in an Icelandic Fjord. KG5 was badly damaged in the bow area and the unfortunate destroyer was sliced in half and sunk.

      Cheers.
      Ron

            Thank Andy.

453- Thank you also . I hope your treatment is progressing nicely. Plastic tracks every time for me. Particularly when I read the mental state these separate links can induce in normally sane people!

Great work Ron, looks like she could do with some time in the dry dock for a refit.

I think it has something to do with getting too many splinters in various parts of one's anatomy during one's working life when one was being clumsy.....'cos I'm the same!

My uncle was a chippy and it certainly brought tears to his eyes…made the rest of the family laugh though!

                          Thanks chaps.

Jim. The best part was having the splinter removed by a very attractive nurse. :hungry:

Bob. Thanks. Just take your time. Paint all the deck areas before assembly. I add anything that needs to be fixed to these at this stage too.
Whichever way you go about it, our KG5's will sit together side by side. :thumb2:

Tim. Any thoughts about the model thus far?

Sorry chaps but I'm scrapping the dry dock for this 1/350 KG5.
I did me some measuring last night and found out just how big the dry dock needed to be.
                              I just haven't the room.

Thanks to all those who posted on this thread.

                              Cheers.
