Do you plan on leaving the frame so large? Or are you going to make a smaller one? I'm in no way familiar with flat figures, but I think the huge frame detracts from the fantastic scene you made. Just my 2 cents Sir..........

Thank Allen - yes it is going to be a boxed diorama. The frame will be about 0.5 cm thinner all around, the logic for such a large frame is to add emphasis to it being a cellar, which can be quite dark, claustrophobic places.

Thanks for that Peter. As I said, I'm a dummy about figures, but this scene is eye catching and does look fantastic. I guess that's me sitting in front of the door, on the right. The only thing I can't see, is my mug of beer..................Maybe I've had one too many there.......

Forgotten all about this one. Glad to see it make a reappearance though, and glad you are recovering well Peter. The scene has come out very well, with a nice degree of three dimensionality. Especially like the way the barrels draw the eye into the scene. Any more flats in the offing?

Hi Peter, When you say "boxed", do you mean like a shadow box type setting?........I really like it and to me it is very 3D looking for what is referred to as "flat"......you have done a very convincing presentation there Sir.:thumb2:

              Hi Guys

Tim - I have a set of British kings and queens from 1066 to date, but it will be a while before I start those.

Rick - here is a phot with the fram removed and from and angle which shows the structure of the diorama which creates the £D effect from the flat figures.

in effdct it is a combination of 2D flat figures set in a 3D room.

Superb! Flats were the 'thing' several years ago before falling out of favour - you could be the vanguard of a renaissance in this genre mate!

                      Hi Peter
I'm glad the recovery is going well. That case really suits the beer cellar.

                        Rick - cheers!
Steve - i do have some more (kings and queens of England) but it will be a while before I do them - they are much harder than they look.
Jim - recover it going fine. the thumb is healed, now it is lots of exercises to increase flexibility. Saw the optician and on Friday ordered my new glasses following the cataract procedures, so fingers' crossed I may have them by next weekend and back to sculpting!

I can well believe that Peter, painting 'in the round' is problematic enough! Are your creations pure flats or 'demi-ronde'?

Hi Steve - they are 30mm trie flats made in Germany using the traditional 'carved in slate' method.

the sheer variety of subjects is quite astounding.
