    The refreshment stop

    Hi all
I want to put my completed IDF CJ-5 into a diorama.

In the '70s, tensions were high between Israel and her Arab neighbours, an IDF border patrol has stopped for some refreshment at a roadside stall. That's the idea anyway

As do many modellers I find figure painting very difficult. But figures add so much to a dio I feel they have to be included. I also think that a figure in a dio does not have to be as good as a stand alone figure to be effective - see I'm already making excuses :tongue-out3: There will be three figures, two IDF and the boy at the stall. I must confess that I have been spurred on by seeing how well John R has done with his figures by determination and sticking with it :thumb2:

Figure 1. Made up of a few bits and pieces with a hornet head. He will be drinking from a bottle.

The boy carries a book? I thought of getting rid of his book but decided to leave it even if it had no relevance to the story :rolling:

After painting, repainting, swearing and fretting the figures are almost done. Just a little bit left to do, the leather needs work and some of the highlights are a bit harsh.

Beautiful figure work there Jim. I have no idea why you would have a fear of doing them. These 3 are fantastic!!!

You surprise me Jim...hidden talent...figures are good and would be a great accompaniment to the IDF CJ-5.
          Looking forward to the dio.

          Cheers,
          Richard

To me, the figures tell the story, otherwise it's a vehicle somewhere

Very impressive painting of the figures Jim, far better than I could possibly manage, I'm sure.

Strength isn't about what you can do, rather it's about overcoming what you thought you couldn't do.

                      Hi all
Beavering away at a snail's pace.
Did a bit of Googling and drew out a sort of generic Israeli building. Just to get the size really - it's not set in stone :rolling:

Had a go at bricks and stone work on a piece of scrap Styrofoam/insulation board.

...and also made a door frame. Steamed a wood strip and pinned it in shape to dry.

I then started to mount the door onto a piece of board so it can be fitted as one piece.

I tried to make a mould of the arched window and the smaller window on the old building next door. Looked OK but as I have now discovered the rubber was out of date and didn't set. I'm waiting for a delivery from Sylmasta.

I have cut the base and cut out the two main blocks for the buildings.
