Andy, Rick, John and Dave. It's taken me around four months to reply to your posts! I'm really sorry.
Anyway, thank you for your comments.

Dave, Just shows how old is my response to the above member messages, that amongst other things, I have entered and completed your excellent G.B.!

I need to finish off this and too many other stalled builds, double quick........Spring is here.

I have now made all the beach obstacles I require. There were others on Omaha, but these will suffice. The 'Ramps' are bits nicked from the wife's flower stuff and some very simple and basic 'Czech Hedgehogs' made from balsa strip. I don't usually use balsa, but as these will be painted and weathered, the too heavy grain won't show. Thus, they will hopefully have a steel look.

I will add the Teller mines to the ramps later.

    Small update...

Back to the beach work next.
Thanks for looking in and again, sorry for the huge delay in replying to you good people and the ridiculous gap between build updates.

    Cheers.
    Ron

          Thanks Andrew.

          453, 'tis lil' old me!

          Update....

I've made a start on the waves. The sea state was moderate on the 6th June. The big storms arrived a few days later.

I found some knackered tile grout in the shed. As you can see, way too lumpy to be of any real use, but it will do for the initial forming of the waves.

The tape measure is weighing down the front end of the L.C., so it won't lift whilst the grout goes off.

Very rough and messy work at the minute, I just want to lay the waves down. Hopefully all will be well at the end..........

          Cheers.

Old tile grout and it already looks like waves rolling in.

Thanks for the encouraging posts, chaps. :thumb2:

It all looks naff at the minute, but once the grout has dried, I will start to tart things up a bit.....

                    Cheers,
                    Ron

You may think it looks naff Ron but I look at it as a good foundation to work your magic from.

                        Thanks Andrew.
The trouble is, whilst I was laying down the 'Sea', I knew summat wasn't right......
This morning, I returned to the shed where I'd left the base overnight.
A fresh look made me realise.

                        A. The finished breakers would be too big.
                        B. They were way too uniform.

                        So as the song goes.

                        Pick yourself up.
Dust yourself down and start all over again.(Nearly)

I've just returned from the shed.
I scraped off all the grout and re- did the whole of the base. Apart from those awful, deep 'Draws' that run along the beach, where so many were drowned, Omaha was shallow and gently shelving and there would have been low, random breakers. Not those things on my first attempt.

I like to tilt my floating, boating objects, it brings them to life somehow.

                        Me happy bunny now!

                        Waves far more random.

If, during a diorama build you are not 100% happy with it, don't be afraid to alter the thing. No matter how drastic!

                        Cheers.

Very nice Ron. Good thinking on the mods as well, those waves do look much more in keeping with the beach itself.

Looks great, and I love the advice to rip into an unsatisfactory diorama - I'm sure that'll happen to me sooner rather than later!
