Chaos All Stars! (Blood bowl figures)

So seeing some of the excellent figures here prompted me to dig out some of my old figures to show you. These are from the late 90's (when I was in my late 20's, and had much better eyes!).
They are from a Games Workshop game called "Blood Bowl". A kind of American football/fantasy crossover boardgame. I had a lot of fun painting these guys, and can still remember the backache afterwards! I don't have a dedicated workspace, so paint at the table with a daylight bulb. All painted with Citadel acrylic paints, inks and a "hairy stick" (paintbrush that is, saw the term on here. Love it!).
After a few days of painting I put the team in their first match; they lost monstrously! Unfortunately I never got enough points to substitute the big ogre with the pinstripes (Morg 'N Thorg). Oh well. Ce la vie.
Happy to share my painting steps if anyone is interested.
    Hope you like.

Thanks John. I am waiting for him to comment. It was his work on the Bone minis that prompted me to post.

Alas, my eyes aren't this sharp any longer. i will have to get a magnifier head set if I want to paint on this scale again.

Oh know that feeling, having had a detached retina some years ago and at 73 if I didn't use an optovisor plus good lighting and the eye patch i just couldn't model .

Have you looked at these., there's so many to chose from, but so helpful. Once you decide on how the method of wearing , ie glasses type or a head band

            Dale,

This brings back memories. It sounds like you and I are about the same age. Both my brother and I did the fantasy Warhammer in the mid late 80s and early 90s, and my brother did dabble with blood bowl.

They turned out very nicely indeed.

            Well done.

            Andrew

Thank you Andrew. I'm 51 now, and would struggle with this scale these days. I still play RPG's with friends to this day. Great hobby too.

Apologies. Yes, Paul. Great work. I saw your comment, and obviously had a moment! I'll be checking out your work momentarily too. Cheers.

So you and I are the same age!!! Never got into RPG other than a brief dabble with a Vietnam one. But then life moved on.

Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

                    ATB.

                        Hi Dale
The eye issue happens to everybody as they age…..best way forward is to buy a Donegan Optivisor…..often copied, never bettered….or get good quality reading glasses.
OptiVISOR is a precision binocular headband magnifier which permits unrestricted user efficiency while reducing eye strain—leaves both hands free and allows three dimensional vision. Used by anyone whose profession or craft requires close accurate work. Can be worn over prescription or safety eyeglasses. OptiVISOR Specs Item No. Focal Length Magnification DA-2      20″ 1.5 times DA-3      14″ 1.75 times DA-4      10″ 2 times DA-5       8″ 2.5 times DA-7       6″ 2.75 times DA-10       4″ 3.5 times

Another link was posted by someone on here a while ago. It’s definitely worth a look, there is some very good kit there.

Love the blood bowl chaps, by the way, especially the green skin on the pogo stick……

I have a few posts on here, including an SBS, so if you have any questions after looking, just ask away….

Here you are Dale, just had a quick look , as Tim has said loads to look at and compare.

I have these, with the head band. Find that the largest mag is fat too strong for me. The 2.5 for me is about right.

It's all comparative. Just younger, not young. Still a great age, like vintage whisky.
