it can be difficult to use a brush to dab ,as it can hold to little or to much paint,

as I,m finding trying to get a hessian cloak just right,
    Cheers moni

I used Vallejo natural steel as that doesn't tend to stick in the bristles as much as other paints and I only used the tip of the brush

Hi Alan. recipe for painting old bronze, colours you will need are , black, burnt umber, gold, silver and dark green.

1... paint the base coat of black and leave to dry for at least 24hrs (even acrylics)

2... paint gold and leave to dry again 24 hours

3... paint over the gold with burnt umber, best to use and oil based burnt umber, whilst the burnt umber is still wet gently wipe it off with a soft cloth so that it leaves the shadows and makes the gold dull and leave to dry

4...now with a wash of burnt umber cover the breast plate and whilst it is still wet add drops of silver, and green randomly and leave to dry this will make the bronze look pattinered, finally just touch up someof the highlights with silver and the creases with black, voila

Cheers Paul , the first part is similar to painting a horse so I'll try that but the last bit about the breast plate I'll keep in mind until I'm ready for that lol

I've copied and pasted that into my notes

              Thanks for the advice

Alan the idea about the last part is, whilst the paint is wet the other colours blend themselves into the umber and give a verdigri effect as in un polished bronze, google bronze and it will show you what i mean

Yeah I get that Paul it's just I'm a one step at a time bloke once I've mastered the oil paint I'll try it then

As I've said I've saved it so when I'm ready I'll start to do more expansive technics

Thanks for your advice I really do appreciate it
