    Advice for newbie please

For someone new to the hobby can you advise the best filler and the best abrasive for plastic and resin models. I realise this is basic stuff but we all have to start somewhere.. Thanks John

It's very much a matter of personal choice, but for filler, my first go-to is

Sanding sticks are the easiest abrasives - you can get them in all sorts of grades Squadron Signal were the first I used............

Wet & Dry paper is useful as well, in all grades - and, if you're going to sand resin, it's better to keep dust down, by using wet. Resin dust is NOT nice stuff!

      Hi John
Very sound advice from Dave. I also like Perfect Plastic Putty.

It’s also worth investing in Tamiya putty if you can find it. It sands to a really fine edge and drills fantastically once dry.

Yep! I use both Perfect Plastic Putty and the Tamiya putty. I usually use my own mix of talcum powder and CA glue (Superglue) which does not shrink and has adhesive qualities. It does dry harder than the surrounding plastic, so care is needed.

I've never really bought into the specialised sanding products. I jut use regular wet 'n' dry, from 800 to 2500 grit.

You'll find that you will have to go down a few cul de sacs before you find what suits you best!

            Cheers

            Steve

I tend to use squadron green filler but it does take some getting used to the new formula they have come out with. As to sanding sticks I buy the nail polishing sticks from pound shops they are cheap and plentiful. As Steve said you will find what works for you.

                Hi

like steve I tend to use standatd wet & dry. I also use the foam sanding pads which are great for curved shapes.

For putty, I tend to stick to Matic Sculpt, which is a two part putty.
