The head's done (and no, Cpl Jones, he's not winking at you):

This is a fairly typical Tamiya head - they all have such bushy eyebrows! Tamiya also tend to sculpt the iris and pupils, which makes the eyes much harder to paint and of gives fewer options for changing the expression. In this case though, he does need to be looking along the barrel of his gun, so fair do's.

Tamiya helmets also have full detail on the inside - liner, strap rings etc - but for some reason they don't depict the rivets and ventilators on the outside. Easy enough to fix with blobs of artist's acrylic.

    Peter.

God knows how you managed to get tha DAK guy looking that good, the new legs make a huge difference but you got the face really nice. Mine looked more like the โ€˜Jokerโ€™ from Batman....... might consider another one but not DAK again lol

This is what he's looking like now. I would have taken him a bit further, but the paint is drying too fast in this warm weather (not something you can say often in the UK).

          Peter.

Looking good Peter, really nice definition. I would have to do all the jacket in one. I wouldnโ€™t have the confidence to get the two parts the same :rolling:

              Thanks Graham.

Normally I would, but the weather really has defeated me.

                Lovely work Peter

Then tension in his right arm really does capture "about to pull the trigger"

I guess the belt is a natural break in painting the torso?

Only the early British slows you down!

                Regards

                Steve H

                  Thanks Steve

The sculpt is very nicely done, though I think the forearms are a bit Popeye-like.

Yes, the break in the belt is to accommodate a grenade - not some horrible wound!

What can I say that I have not said in my many comments on all your other works. (corn ) there I don't think I ever said that lol. Kidding aside I find your contrast superb on the faces, love the way it always turns out awesome.

Kind words Rick, many thanks. It certainly doesn't always turn out well - you don't get to see the many failures.

                      Latest session:

That's the main part of the figure completed. I'm glad I didn't do camo as it's allowed the well sculpted folds and creases come out. The weather is not so warm today, so that allowed for a bit of wet-on-wet painting, ideal for shading uniforms.

                        Hi Peter
I like him a lot. Like Steve I reckon the arm muscles are perfect.

Cheers Jim. There's something a bit toy-soldierish about him. Perhaps it the pose - you always got one of those in a set.

                            That's the first figure finished:

The last session involved painting and attaching the equipment, which was fairly straightforward. I also added straps for the gas mask (Tamiya always forget the short one at the bottom), water bottle and MP40, all made from paper. The rank badge is a Verlinden decal.

I'm going to have to put this project on hold for a while, as I have some bust commissions to paint. More later.

I've decided not to proceed with the vignette idea, mainly because I don't think the figures will work together after all. I've therefore mounted him on a base, muddied him up a bit, and am calling him done:

Really like that Peter. Looks great as a single figure and a lot better than I thought possible from one of these kits.
