Young Miniatures 1/10 British Tank Crew Bust

My next bust will be this one by Young Miniatures, a British Tank Crewman of the 2WW.

    It comes in four pieces:

    All nicely cast as usual.

He's wearing the winter overalls with quite a complicated neck arrangement - lots of folds and buckles etc:

It could be re-zipped for conversion into a sleeping bag apparently.

Construction and clean-up took ten minutes:

I've left the collar and head unglued for separate painting.

      Peter .
Is it worth me sitting down, or will you have this finished by the time I find a chair ?:smiling3:

          John - Take a seat. Should be a least a 3-dayer!

Steve - I is a very nice sculpt. Always hard when you have Young B Song's box art i front of you.

I've got the basics of the face done:

The hair and beret are just blocked in at the moment. I'm trying to go for fairly extreme lighting, though it's something that I find difficult to hold my nerve with. There is still a lot to do - more blending and adding detail and generally tidying up.

              Peter,
I have this very bust and did attempt to paint it a while ago but wasn't happy so didn't post any pictures. You are off to great start beautifully painted with a style all your own.

                Mick - Don't stand, take a seat - John doesn't bite (usually).

Scottie - I must admit finding this difficult. It looked relatively simple to start with, but the paint kept unearthing more detail. The blending on the cheeks was particularly difficult and needs more work. Wouldn't be worthwhile if it wasn't so hard I suppose.....

your right mate, if it's harder it pushes the skills to cope with it and you have the skills in buckets.

Scottie - Well, I suppose I don't give up as easily as I used too.....

                      Si - Thank you.

We I'm sat down Peter, great start, you make it look so easy, but I know how difficult it really is having just started my Knight Hospitaller.

                            Morning Peter

Looks good, how has it changed with your extra detailing?

The bust does look like it will be a real treat/trial to paint and worth/worthy of the challenge.

I guess you are reaching the stage where subtly of blending and its photography are a challenge to bring to the blog.

Still, it looks super before you fine tune it.

Have a good day with the paints

                            Regards

                            Steve H

Peter - Hope you've dried off after your long swim....

Ian - It is bloomin' difficult, but is is all about the challenge I suppose.

Steve - Morning. I don't like leaving parts half finished, but yesterday I was fighting a mounting headache and was trying to get as much done as possible before I succumbed. I had to give up before I was completely satisfied with the face, so hopefully a bit of extra work will bring it up to standard.

Interesting what you say about photography, because of course that's how the majority of people will see the final piece. I am aware of thinking how the work will photograph as I go along. Would hate to have to exhibit the real thing.
