Morning Steve - I haven't done a full black uniform at his scale, and I think the problem here will be the smoothness of the finish - not a lot of creases and folds. Definitely a head swap, as this is one of Tamiya's 'cartoons'. Have a good (quiet?) day at work.

    Neil - Many thanks.

Wonderful work Peter. Two outstanding figures. I will watch with interest on the next figure as I struggle to make a black surface look interesting.

        Nice link Ralph. Top work

Ralph - Many thanks for the link and great work. I think I may use combinations of German Grey and Luftwaffe uniform for the highlights - it's worked before at 1/35.

          Mr Jones - Many thanks.

This one is now ready for painting:

The parts fitted perfectly, as one would expect from Tamiya, and the the only filler I used was to fix a tiny hole at the collar. I removed the moulded shoulder straps, as they ran along where the body halves met and made replacements from card, sprue and etch.

I decided to use a head from a batch sent to me by Ralph - not sure of the manufacturer, but I thought it would make a change to have a bare head and smiling face. For that reason he will be holding his cap. I initially used the hanging arm, but couldn't find a hand that held the cap at the right angle, so I changed to the other one supplied with a Verlinden hand.

              This should be fun.
The head is either Rollcall or Kirin.

Good start - let' s see the Tamiya head Peter?
You said it was one of their cartoons.....I'm curious.
and I'm watching avidly to see what you do with the black

                    Hi Neil.

Well, perhaps 'cartoon' is a bit strong, but it is a bit odd. Also reminds me too much of an ex-politician turned TV presenter too (who may also be described as cartoonish):

                    Aaaargh!

                    As for the black, this is a 1/35th I did recently;

Will probably go along the same lines.

Thanks Peter- you're not wrong! It's terrible. I know I have moaned before about the prevalence of 'Adonis' types but you wouldn't really want to look at this for long.
He just doesn't look very German, though , does he? I think he got his nose from Picasso....

Neil - No, not very anything really. Tamiya also adapted this head for their Adolph Galland figure, and funnily enough, with a moustache it looks quite like him.

And that said, I hit a problem with the first head, the Kirin, which I ended up abandoning. Unfortunately it was just too lumpy on one side, and even though I took sandpaper to it mid paint (not a good idea normally) it just wouldn't work. Keen to keep the smiling, bare-headed theme, I used another one of Ralph's:

This looks like a Moz Corry sculpt to me. It's a bit too big and slightly odd, but it has some character.and will do the job.

What to say, pure quality as always.

Cheers Ralph and Mick, but I've ditched the second head as well. Went for a lie-down and when I came back a couple of hours later I thought it looked terrible. I tried it on the body and it was also too big, so I've spent a couple of hours fixing up a third one.
