    Verlinden 120MM Special Forces Vietnam

I enjoyed doing the Verlinden radio operator so much that I've opted to go for another Vietnam figure. This will be based on the above kit with a couple of changes. This is another supplied by Richard Pearce, who also included in the bundle an African American head, coupled with a boonie hat:

You don't see many pictures of AA Special Forces, but they did exist:

    Shoukd be fun.

                      Morning Peter

                      The rain has stopped!

South Yorkshire has been on the BBC with the flooding.

We are still dry, here in Bradford, though the garden is saturated!

Another great start and a serendipitous moment too?

Its that time of year, again, could I ask a favour?

Could you detail your palette for painting the African American head?

Reason is, I am building a Boko Haram crew for a T-34/85 in Yemen in the 1980's and have never painted with an African palette before.

I once worked with a Nigerian colleague many years ago, and he said that the Eastern Nigerians were literally black in skin colour.

A dark brown would be more believable though, and you have just done one!

I do remember you did a bust last year too.

Well done sticking with the smaller scale too.

Have a good weekend with the family

                      Regards

                      Steve H

Pete - Keeps me warm, sitting by the radiator.

Morning Steve - Glad to hear you stayed above the flood waters. I did see the reports on the flooding on the BBC.

The palette I use for African skin is very simple. Mixes of German Camo Black Black Brown, Red Leather and Flat Flesh. My concern is always that the details of the skin won't show up when photographed, so I do like to highlight as much as possible with the red leather. That does make the whole effect lighter, but less red leather in the mix will give darker West African skin tones. I also add a touch of Dark Red to certain areas like the lips and cheeks to vary the tones. John Ballard always suggest that a touch of purple will give the effect of reflected sky.

These are a couple of others I've done:

A Boko Haram T-34 in Yemen sounds crazy, but really interesting - don't forget to blog it.

Thanks, though it looks like I have to get up, Christine keeps appearing and talking about removing a sunflower in the garden as it's looking untidy with it's half eaten head !

                              Have a good day .
